CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s wrestling team turned in a 41-29 dual win over Austintown Fitch on Wednesday.
Jordan Bates, John Burkett, Matthew Tomaino, Bobby Buchheit and Jake Hughes had pins for the winners.
“I’m really proud of our guys tonight. We knew this was going to be a tough, competitive dual against a great team,” Beaver Local coach Johnny McComas said. “Our wrestlers stepped up in big moments. From top to bottom, we had kids rise to the challenge and win key matches. This win is the kind of win that shows what this team and program are all about. We want great competition, and our guys stepped up, won big matches and competed for every point. ”

West Branch boys, Salem girls win
SALEM — West Branch and Salem’s wrestling teams split matches on Wednesday night in dual action.
West Branch’s boys were 53-23 winners, while the Quakers won the girls’ match 40-18.
Winners for the West Branch boys were Jackson McDonald (106 pounds), Carter Day (113), Kase Stryffeler (120), Mahlon Fritz (126), Case Sanor (132), Beau Nezbeth (150), JJ Marra (157), Jackson Shinn (190) and Gavin Hang (215).
For Salem, Jacob Dumont (138), Josh Mayhew (144), Ben Kuboff (165), Mackston Ellis (175) and Colt Stockman (285) were winners.
Winners for the Quaker girls were Karli Thompson (110), Delaney Callahan (120), Laura Hovorka (125), Paige Menough (145), Lyric McCullough (170) and Layla Eubanks (190). For West Branch, Suri Myers (105), Abigail Janosik (135) and Grace Bates (155) won matches.
Menough’s win was her 100th.
