Beavers miss Hill in loss to South Range

South Range 65, Beaver Local 50

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local had a big hole in the lineup Tuesday.

The Beavers, playing without injured 6-foot-7 All-Ohioan Owen Hill, dropped a 65-50 decision to South Range.

The Raiders improve to 12-8 and will close out the regular season by hosting Campbell on Friday and West Branch on Saturday.

The Beavers finish the regular season with a 16-6 record. Hill is still battling a foot injury that forced him to miss five games in January and his status for the sectional tournament opener next week is uncertain.

Fourth-seeded Beaver Local will host eighth-seeded Minerva in Division IV sectional play at 7 p.m. Feb. 27. Beaver Local beat Minerva, 56-52, on Dec. 9 with Hill in the lineup.

Gavin Hiscox led the Raiders with 18 points, followed by Nick Toy with 17 and Tommy Titus with 15.

Matthew Anderson topped Beaver Local with 18 points. Peyton Cowdery added 11 points and Luke Rettos eight.

South Range jumped out to a 34-26 halftime lead and scored the first six points of the third quarter to go ahead 40-26.

The Beavers closed within 43-37 after three quarters, but the Raiders scored seven points in the opening 41 seconds of the fourth quarter to widen the margin to 50-37.

Beaver Local would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way, the final time at 56-45 with 4 1/2 minutes remaining.

Beaver Local won the junior varsity game, 54-41, with Owen Moore scoring 17 points and Jett Johnson 13.
