Moser’s third quarter lifts Clips over Eagles

Columbiana 36, United 29
HANOVERTON — After scoring 13 points in the first half, the Columbiana Clippers were looking for an offensive spark.
Senior Megan Moser scored all 11 points during an 11-4 third-quarter run that lifted Columbiana over United, 36-29, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Monday.
The Clippers won their sixth in a row to improve to 13-2 overall and 9-1 in the EOAC, one game behind Southern. The Eagles are 8-7 and 6-4 in league play.
Moser finished with a game-high 16 points. Evy Rapp contributed nine points, including five in the fourth quarter.
The teams played to a 13-13 tie at halftime. Columbiana was 5-of-21 from the field with 15 turnovers, while United was 3-of-14 from the field with 16 turnovers.
The Clippers, who were 0-of-9 from three-point range in the first half, got three three-pointers from Moser along with another basket in the third quarter for a 24-17 lead.
Maelee Smith topped the Eagles with nine points and seven rebounds. Reagan Good added five points and seven rebounds and Bella Thompson had five points and three assists.
Columbiana also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 16-15, after leading 14-8 in the first quarter. Josie Hepler led the Clippers with seven points. Ines Vilela Rego paced United with 10 points.
Both teams return to league play Thursday with Columbiana hosting Leetonia and United traveling to East Palestine.

Southern 71, Lisbon 19
SALINEVILLE — Southern Local was clicking on all cylinders in a 71-19 win over Lisbon on Monday in girls basketball action.
The Indians (16-0, 10-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Confernce) scored the first 26 points of the game. Lisbon’s first basket came with 4:55 left in the second quarter on a Lylah Brown shot.
Katie Kellogg led the Indians with 27 points, seven assists, seven steals and four rebounds. Makenna Jones added 13 points, four rebounds and four steals. Allyssa Shroades had 12 points, four assists and four steals.
Southern led 23-0 after the first quarter and 48-8 after the second quarter. Emma Boyle hit a long buzzer beating three for the Indians right before half.
Lisbon is 8-7 and 5-5 in the EOAC. Jayden Smyth led the Devils with 10 points.
Southern is at Valley on Thursday.
Lisbon hosts Wellsville on Thursday.

East Palestine 51, Wellsville 26
WELLSVILLE — Freshman Destiney Burtyk totaled 23 points, seven assists, seven steals and six rebound in leading East Palestine past Wellsville, 51-26, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Monday.
The Bulldogs won for the fifth time in six games to improve to 8-7 overall and 5-5 in the EOAC. The Tigers fall ot 0-14 and 0-10 EOAC.
Burtyk scored 15 points in the first half as East Palestine built a 30-11 lead.
Jacklyn Ogle added 10 points, Violet Glavan had eight points and Amara Wilson had a team-high eight rebounds.
Kenzie Bosco topped Wellsville with 17 points.
Both teams play Thursday with East Palestine hosting United and Wellsville visiting Lisbon.
