Clippers, Indians in EOAC hunt

Columbiana 47, East Palestine 11
COLUMBIANA — It didn’t take long for Columbiana to set up the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title game.
The Clippers went on an early 21-0 run on the way to a 47-11 win over East Palestine on Thursday.
Columbiana improves to 15-2 overall and 11-1 in the EOAC. The Clippers will play at unbeaten Southern Local on Monday, weather permitting, to decide the league title. Southern Local is one game ahead of Columbiana with two league games remaining.
Evy Rapp led the Clippers with 16 points. Annah Clemmer added 13 points, Megan Moser 10 and Sydney Spaite eight to account for all of Columbiana’s scoring.
After East Palestine took a 2-0 lead, Rapp scored six straight points and 10 in the 21-0 run that put Columbiana ahead for good at 21-2.
Spaite had a three-pointer and another long jumper in the second quarter as the Clippers led 26-5 at halftime.
Columbiana outscored East Palestine 15-0 in the third quarter for a 41-5 advantage.
East Palestine shot 1-of-23 from the field in the first half with 10 turnovers.
The Bulldogs finally got their second field goal on a Wilson offensive rebound with 6:48 remaining in the fourth quarter.
East Palestine — which dressed six players — moves to 9-10 and 5-7 in the EOAC.
Amara Wilson had four points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Jacklyn Ogle also had four points and Destiney Burtyk three.
The Bulldogs will host Lisbon at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Southern 75, Leetonia 13
LEETONIA — Southern Local cruised to a 75-13 victory over Leetonia on Thursday.
The Indians move to 18-0 overall and 12-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. Southern leads the league by one over Columbiana who they host on Monday. If Southern wins that game, it will be the outright EOAC champion.
Katie Kellogg sparked the Indians with 22 points, a school single-game record 15 assists, 11 steals and eight rebounds. Allyssa Shroades had 10 points, seven assists and six steals. Kalayah Crute had a season-high 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ava Reed had a career-high eight points.
Over two games this seaon Southern has outscored Leetonia 157-14.
Leetonia slumped to 1-14 and 1-11 in the EOAC.
Leetonia hosts Wellsville on Monday.

LISBON — United’s Maelee Smith tallied 17 points to power the Golden Eagles to a 43-37 win over Lisbon on Thursday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Bella Thompson and Reagan Good had eight points each for the Eagles, 10-7, 8-4.
Lisbon is 10-8 and 6-6 in the conference.
United won the jayvee game, 36-21. Delaney Pickens had six points for the Devils. Aria Reckner had five points.
Lisbon is at East Palestine on Monday.
United entertains Valley on Monday.

WELLSVILLE — Wellsville’s girls basketball team is still searching for that first win of the season after a 54-15 loss to Valley Christian on Thursday.
The Tigers fell to 0-17 and 0-12 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
Valley Christian is 6-9 and 5-7 in the league.
Wellsville heads to Leetonia on Monday.

CALCUTTA — Oak Glen outscored Beaver Local by 19 in the first quarter and cruised to a 57-24 win on Thursday in girls basketball action.
Oak Glen is 8-4, while Beaver Local is 6-12.
The Golden Bears are supposed to host Edison on Saturday, while Beaver Local is slated to play at Minerva on Monday.

Union Local 55, East Liverpool 22
EAST LIVERPOOL — Buckeye 8 champion Union Local had no trouble with East Liverpool in a 55-22 win on Thursday at Potter Fieldhouse.
The Potters fell to 6-12, while The Jets are 17-1.
East Liverpool will host Oak Glen on Monday.

Lowellville 43, Heartland 37
COLUMBIANA — Heartland Christian’s girls basketball team suffered a 43-37 loss to Lowellville on Thursday.
Sarah Reynolds led the Lions with 16 points, while Kaylin Norbo had nine points.
The Lions fell to 7-9, while Lowellville improved to 8-9.
Heartland hosts Malvern on Monday.
