CALCUTTA — The Beaver Local wrestling won nine matches on the way to a 40-21 decision over Oak Glen on Wednesday.

“Tonight was everything you hope a senior night can be,” Beaver Local coach Johnny McComas said. “The environment in the gym was electric from start to finish, and our fans brought an incredible level of energy and support. You could feel the excitement in every match, and our wrestlers fed off that. To come out, compete the way we did, and get a big win in front of a packed, loud home crowd made it an unforgettable night for our seniors and for our entire program.”

Getting pins to highlight the Beaver Local victory were Robert Buchheit (150 pounds), Jake Hughes (165) and Evan Ours (175). Nick Marra also had a major decision (195).

“Senior Night is always emotional, but tonight was special,” McComas said. “This group of seniors has meant a lot to our program–not just for the wins, but for the way they’ve led, worked, and represented Beaver Local. They have continued the standard we expect from our guys and this program. We are blessed to have them a part of this team, and I’m excited about what the rest of this season has in store for these special guys.”

The Beavers will be back in action at the 72nd OVAC Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 15-17 at Wes Banco Arena in Wheeling, W.Va.

In middle school action Wednesday, Beaver Local beat Oak Glen, 65-23.

Getting wins for the Beavers were Rowan Williams, Dylan Call, Susan Buchheit, Braxton Oshaben, Giovanni Depizzo, Maddox LaClair, Michael Luna, Cael Dunn, Taylor Jefferies, Colton Schoolcraft and Wesley Goodman.
