Southern gets first boys win
SALINEVILLE –Southern Local’s boys basketball team marched to a 54-46 win over Jefferson County Christian on Saturday.
The Indians are 1-5 and will be at Wellsville on Tuesday.
Landen Heffner led the Indians with 20 points and six assists. Mason Pitts added 15 points and nine rebounds. Jacob McCurdy had nine points, nine rebounds and four assists.

EAST PALESTINE — Oak Glen’s boys basketball team used a total team effort in an 84-30 win over East Palestine on Saturday.
Gavin Geisse led the 2-1 Golden Bears with 12 points. Elijah Knisley and Tyler Evans had 10 points each.
R.J. May had 10 points for the Bulldogs, 0-5.
Oak Glen won the jayvee game, 59-23. Jacob Everett had 17 points.
Oak Glen also won the freshman game, 22-11. Maddox Chaffin led the Bears with nine points.
East Palestine hosts Valley Christian Tuesday.
Oak Glen is at Toronto on Tuesday.

COLUMBIANA — Heartland Christian’s boys basketball team turned in a 61-31 win over Valley Christian on Saturday to move to 7-0 on the season.
Heartland will host its Hoopin’ to the New Year tournament on Dec. 29.

MINERAL RIDGE — Megan Moser hit two free throws with .2 seconds left to lift Columbiana to a 48-46 win over Mineral Ridge on Saturday.
Annah Clemmer sparked the winners with 18 points. Megan Moser added 16 points.
Columbiana (8-2) will host Lisbon on Tuesday in a boy-girl doubleheader.

Southern 77, Heartland 30
SALINEVILLE — Southern’s girls basketball team extended its win streak to start the season to 11 games as it defeated Heartland Christian 77-30 on Saturday.
Freshman Katie Kellogg led the Indians with 17 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Senior Allyssa Shroades put together an all-around game with 20 points and five steals. Makenna Jones added 14 points and five rebounds. Kalayah Crute had 12 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.
The Indians are ranked 12th in the state in Div. VI according to MaxPreps.
Kaylin Norbo had 12 points for the Lions, 2-6.
Southern will be at Wellsville today.

GIRARD — Salem’s girls basketball team knocked off the defending Northeast 8 conference champions Girard 51-43 on Saturday.
Abby Knickerbocker led the way with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Maddy Andres added 17 points and eight rebounds. Karlie Sampson chipped in seven points and six rebounds, while Garyn Rohm had six rebounds.
Salem is 6-2 and is at Niles today.
