Salem 65, Mooney 29

SALEM — The Salem girls basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season by downing Youngstown Mooney, 65-29, Saturday.

Abby Knickerbocker had a game-high 25 points, including 13 in the second quarter, and nine rebounds to lead the Quakers.

Karlie Sampson added 13 points and eight assists. Garyn Rohm grabbed six rebounds.

Mooney, which got 14 points from Julia Diorio, drops to 0-4.

The Quakers will host Minerva on Wednesday with the junior varsity game starting at 5:30 p.m.

Columbiana 35, Springfield 10

COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana girls won their fourth in a row by stopping Springfield, 35-10, Saturday.

Columbiana improves to 4-1, while Springfield drops to 3-1.

Annah Clemmer led the Clippers with 15 points and Evalyn Rapp added 11.

The Clippers led 26-4 through three quarters.

Columbiana also won the two-quarter junior varsity game, 16-12, as Brooke McKim scored eight points.

Both teams play tonight with Columbiana hosting United and Springfield entertaining Sebring.

COLUMBIANA — The Heartland Christian girls scored 17 points in the fourth quarter and came up just short in a 37-34 loss to Liberty on Saturday.

Sophomore Danelle Coleman led the Leopards with 22 points.

For Heartland, Sarah Reynolds had 13 points and Gabriella McDowell 12.

The Lions drop to 0-4 and are scheduled to play at Jackson-Milton today.

Lake Center 66, Lisbon 44

HARTVILLE — The Lake Center Christian girls scored 29 points in the third quarter to pull away from Lisbon for a 66-44 win Saturday.

It was the first loss of the season for Lisbon, which moves to 4-1. Lake Center is 3-1.

Megan Treen and Caroline Shelly scored 20 and 19 points, respectively, for Lake Center.

Leaders for Lisbon were Jayden Smyth with 19 points, seven rebound and four steals and Lylah Brown with 19 points and four assists.

Lake Center also won the junior varsity game, 41-30.

The Blue Devils got nine points from Sofia Brown and eight from Gracyn Owens.

Lisbon host Southern Monday.

West Branch 51, Boardman 25

BELOIT — The West Branch girls improved to 4-0 by doubling up Boardman, 51-25, Saturday.

The Warriors used a 17-9 second-quarter run to take a 25-15 halftime lead.

Freshman Madi Hoopes scored a game-high 17 points and Audrey Eaton hit three three-pointers for 14 points. Syn. Sydney Lane added six points and Alli Kanagy five.

West Branch forced 26 turnovers on the way to victory.

The Warriors also won the junior varsity game, 54-20.

Both teams play Wednesday with West Branch hosting Marling and Boardman traveling to Youngstown Mooney.

BOYS

Steubenville CC 49, Wellsville 30

STEUBENVILLE — Trailing by three points at halftime, Wellsville was shut out in the third quarter and fell to Steubenville Catholic Central, 49-30 Saturday.

The Crusaders imprrove to 2-1.

Wellsville drops to 0-3 heading into Tuesday’s game at East Palestine.
