Lisbon Tip-Off Tournament

LISBON — Lisbon’s ninth annual Tip-Off Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Lisbon High School.

Mogadore is the defending tournament champion and the football team ended its season on Friday with a 42-21 loss to McDonald in a Division VII regional semifinal.

Friday’s basketball schedule for Nace Gymnasium includes Heartland Christian vs. Mogadore varsity at 2 p.m., Lisbon vs. Heartland Christian jayvees at 3:30 p.m. and Lisbon vs. Youngstown Academy for Urban Scholars varsity at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the consolation game will be at 6 p.m., followed by the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. All tickets are available at the door with cash only.

Glenville playing semifinal in Minerva

MINERVA — Area football fans are in for a treat on Friday night.

Second-ranked Indian Valley (12-0) will play fifth-ranked Cleveland Glenville (10-3) at Minerva High School in a Division IV state semifinal featuring the teams that have won the last three state championships.

Indian Valley is the defending Division IV state champion, while Glenville won its two state titles in 2022 and 2023.

Kickoff at Hines Stadium will be at 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $16 for adults and $10 for students.

Youngstown State swept by Horizon champion

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kentucky — The Youngstown State volleyball team’s best season in more than a decade came to an end on Saturday with a 25-15, 25-10, 25-17 loss to Wright State in the Horizon League semifinals Saturday.

Senior outside hitter Abbie Householder from Canfield finished her YSU career with 14 kills, bringing her career total to a school-record 1,427.

The Penguins conclude the campaign with a 17-14 record, their most victories since 2014. That also was the last time the Penguins advanced to the tournament semifinals.

Wright State defeated Northern Kentucky, 25-18, 25-16, 25-19, in the championship match Sunday at Regents Hall.

Wright State (21-10) advances to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in seven seasons. The Raiders will find out who they play during the NCAA Selection Show on Nov. 30.

Former Mentor Lake Catholic All-Ohioan Katie Sowko is a sophomore outside hitter for Wright State.

Sowko had 12 kills, two aces and seven digs against Youngstown State and 10 kills, three blocks, two aces and four digs against Northern Kentucky.

Salem girls top Triway

WOOSTER — The Salem girls bowling team topped Wooster Triway, 1676-1217, Friday.

Leading the Quakers were Nora Shean with a 336 series (171-165), Brooklyn Herold with a 329 series (139-190) and Kylie Smith with a 313 series (154-159).

Triway won the boys match, 2196-2026.

The Salem boys were paced by Donald Blackburn with a 438 series (225-213), Tanner James with a 391 series (235-156) and Vinnie Yannucci with a 320 series (175-145). Luke Spielman also had a 168 game.
