Three Beavers honored

CALCUTTA — Three Beaver Local girls golfers were named to the All-East District Div. II second team recently.

Freshman McKenzie Ash, sophomore Mya Anderson and sophomore Brenna Jones were honored by district coaches.

Southern beats East

KENSINGTON — Southern Local boys bowling team defeated Youngstown East 1,277-1,081 on Friday at Forest Lanes. Mason Sosack led Southern with a 281 series.

Rebels split with Beavers

SALEM — The Crestview boys and Beaver Local girls won bowling matches Thursday at Hunt Club Lanes.

The Rebels won the boys match, 2192-2030, as Peyton Mellott had a two-game series of 415. Brody Brubaker added a 216 game. Lucas Johnson had a 308 series and Milton Scott 301.

For the Beavers, Cameron Anderson had a 190 game and 345 series. Mike Druschel had a 314 series and Jacob Vest 309.

The Beaver Local girls won 1,642-1,443, behind Emmalee Wilder’s 186 game and 344 series. Addy Newman followed with a 258 series and Ryle Ingram a 250 series.

For the Crestview girls, Blaney Bister had a 154 game and 264 series, Kyle Wolfe a 260 series and Lyv Barnett a 211 series.

YSU in Horizon League semis

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kentucky — Youngstown State senior Abbie Householder from Canfield set the career record for kills in the Penguins’ 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 15-10 win over Green Bay in the Horizon League volleyball quarterfinals Friday.

Youngstown State will play Wright State in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Penguins improved their record to 17-13, matching their highest win total since 1999.

Householder — the 2025 Horizon League Player of the Year — finished with 29 kills to increase her career total to 1,413. She surpassed Vickie Robinson’s record of 1,408 that was established in the sideout scoring era from 1996-99.

Gabriela Machin added a career-high 27 kills and Layne Graffice from Marlington had 16 kills and a career-high 20 digs. Kameron Blizniak had 70 assists Maria Insana had a career-high 25 digs.
