Guappone runs best at NYC

NEW YORK — Lisbon resident Natalie Guappone achieved a significant milestone on Nov. 2, crossing the finish line at the New York City Marathon in a personal-best time of 3 hours, 39 minutes and 53 seconds.

Guappone, 58, finished placed 131st in her 55-59 age group out of 1,499 competitors in the world’s largest marathon.

She also was 2,902nd out of 27,131 female runners and 11,680th overall out of a total of 59,133 runners.

The New York City Marathon represents Guappone’s fourth Abbott Major Marathon completion, following previous appearances at the Boston Marathon (twice) and the Chicago Marathon. Her NYC performance improved upon her previous marathon best by six minutes.

“Each race has its own character — but New York had a special energy from start to finish,” Guappone said.

With New York complete, Guappone has now conquered all three domestic Abbott World Marathon Majors courses. The classic Abbott series comprises six races, including Tokyo, Berlin, and London, representing the most prestigious marathon events globally.

Starting at $2.99/week.
