Glenville holds off Indian Valley
MINERVA — Minerva High School was the place to be on a chilly Friday night.
Fifth-ranked Cleveland Glenville jumped out to a 20-0 lead and had to rally past second-ranked Indian Valley for a 26-21 win in a Division IV state semifinal at Hines Stadium.
Glenville (11-3) advances to the state final for the third time in four years after winning state titles in 2022 and 2023 and will play top-ranked Shelby (14-0) at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
Indian Valley, last year’s state champion, fell behind 20-0 in the third quarter and rallied to take a 21-20 lead early in the fourth quarter — on 57-yard touchdown reception by Carsen Hostetler, the state runner-up- in the 300-meter hurdles, and touchdown runs of 12 and 2 yards by Grady Kinsey.
Da’Von McDougle scored on a 4-yard run to give the Tarblooders a 26-21 with 7:29 to play in the fourth quarter, but missed the two-point conversion.
The Braves got to the Glenville 20 and were stopped short on a fourth-and-3 play with 1:43 left. The Tarblooders ran out the clock.
The game time temperature at the start of the game was 29 degrees.
