Coffee lines up for OAC honors

ALLIANCE — The Mount Union football team had a total of 16 players — including junior offensive lineman Mitch Coffee from West Branch — on the All-Ohio Athletic Conference teams announced Monday.

The Purple Raiders had nine first-teamers, including three special award winners — redshirt freshman quarterback Mikey Maloney as the Most Outstanding Offensive Back, senior Kaleb Brown as the Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman and senior Kosta Thrasivoulou as the Most Outstanding Defensive Back

Maloney led the OAC with 27 passing touchdowns, a 69.0 completion percentage and a 187.3 passing efficiency. His 2,237 passing yards is third in the conference and he added 391 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

Senior offensive linemen Giovanni Kennedy and Fred Fevrier were named to the first team, while Coffee received second-team honors after starting eight games at right tackle.

The Purple Raiders –who are averaging 8.2 yards per play — finished the regular season at 10-0 after averaging 46.9 points and 485 total yards a game.

Mount Union will host Muhlenberg (9-2) at noon Saturday in an NCAA Division III second-round playoff game.

Other Mount Union first-team OAC picks are senior defensive lineman Brandon Bowden, junior wide receiver Davion Grant, junior kicker Ivan Maric and senior punter Michael Franklin.

Joining Coffee on the second team are graduate student running back Darnell Williams, senior linebacker Weston Arthur, senior wide receiver Jacob Cockrell and senior wide receiver Nick Turner.

Also for Mount Union, senior offensive lineman Mason Fortner and senior linebacker Keenan Cruz received honorable mention.
