Area players star at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — Three area players were named to the All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) football team on Thursday.
Former United High School standouts Keaton Baker and Payton Brereton along with Luke Crumbacher from South Range were among the PAC honorees.
They helped the Golden Tornadoes to a 6-4 season, their first winning campaign since 2009. Geneva will play at SUNY Brockport (N.Y.) in the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Scott Whitelaw Bowl at noon Saturday.
Baker, a senior receiver, was named to the All-PAC second team. He had a team-high 63 catches for 1,110 yards (17.6) and 12 touchdowns. His 1,110 yards receiving are the second-most in school history and ranks eighth in the nation in NCAA Division III. He also set a school record with 282 yards receiving against Saint Vincent.
Brereton, a senior who was a three-year starter at defensive tackle, received honorable mention. Brereton started all 10 games this season and posted 26 tackles, with 4 1/2 for losses, 2 1/2 sacks and a forced fumble. He started all 30 games the past three seasons.
Crumbacher, a senior receiver, also gained honorable mention after making 43 catches for 910 yards (21.2) and nine touchdowns. He has caught a touchdown pass in nine straight games, averaging 51 yards per scoring catch.
Geneva’s Geno DeMarco, wrapping up his 33rd and final season as head coach, was named the PAC coach of the year. It is the 10th time he’s received the honor. DeMarco has a record of 173-162 heading into the final game of his career.
