Akron St. V cancels game
AKRON — Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary canceled Friday’s football game with Harvest Prep due to a combination of multiple season-ending injuries and a bacterial skin infection running through the team.
The Irish are 0-6, while Harvest Prep is 2-4.
Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary entered the season with 59 players on the roster.
700th win for Clipper grad
NEW WILIMINGTON, Pa. — Westminster College’s volleyball team beat Grove City 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 on Wednesday to give Titan head coach Tammy Swearingen her 700th career win.
The Columbiana High School graduate is 700-401 in her career at Westminster.
Swearingen also was the head volleyball coach at Columbiana from 1986 to 1988 and head Clipper softball coach from 1983 to 1988.
Newsome traded
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns traded cornerback Greg Newsome to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for cornerback Tyson Campbell and a swap of late-round draft picks late on Wednesday.
Newsome, a first-round pick in 2021, played in 59 games with 47 starts for Cleveland and had three career interceptions. Campbell, also a 2021 selection, joins the Browns as the teams look to retool their secondary.
Terms include Newsome and the Browns’ 2026 sixth-round pick heading to Jacksonville; Cleveland receives Campbell and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
