Big game tonight

HANOVERTON — Gates for the East Palestine at United football game tonight will open at 5:30 p.m.

Homecoming ceremonies will start at 6:30 p.m. and the game will kick off at 7 p.m.

Both teams are unbeaten in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference and state ranked.

The game will be televised live on MyYTV.

Minerva girls qualify for state

LANCASTER — Minerva’s girls golf team won the Div. I district title with a 378 team score on Thursday at Lancaster Golf Club.

For the Lions, Emery Sell had an 85, while Peyton Beaumariage added an 89. Delaney Sell had a 97, while Mady Bartley and Hannah Kirkpatrick had 107s.

Minerva was the only district team to qualify for the Div. I state tournament held on Oct. 12 and 13 at the Firestone Country Club in Akron.

Eagles, Beavers tie

CALCUTTA — United Local’s boys soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Beaver Local on Thursday.

Josh Hawkins had the Eagles’ goal in the first half. Danny Readshaw had the assist.

Aiden Gundersen had four saves for the Eagles. United (5-6-2) is at Crestview on Saturday.

Beaver Local (9-4-1) hosts Sandy Valley on Saturday.

West Branch shuts out Ursuline

YOUNGSTOWN — West Branch’s boys soccer team blanked Ursuline 4-0 on Thursday at Youngstown State University.

West Branch is 11-3 and will be at Dover on Wednesday.

Hollobaugh earns MAC honor

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio University linebacker and former Warren JFK All-Ohioan Cam Hollobaugh was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week in the Bobcats’ 35-20 win over Bowling Green on Saturday.

Hollobaugh kicked off Ohio’s conference opener, scoring on the first drive of the game with a 71-yard interception return. In the second half, Hollobaugh’s forced fumble marked the defense’s first of the season. He recorded eight tackles, including three solos, with one tackle for loss, one sack and two quarterback hurries.

Hollobaugh, a graduate student, played the previous four seasons at Walsh University in North Canton.

The Bobcats (3-2 ) and will play at Ball State at noon Saturday.
