Rebels’ win streak over

COLUMBIANA — Crestview’s 62-match win streak in the regular season came to an end Wednesday.

The Rebels were swept by Austintown Fitch, 25-20, 25-14, 25-20, for their first regular-season loss since Oct. 10, 2022. That also was to Fitch and the last time they lost two straight matches.

Crestview, ranked eighth in the Division V state poll, moves to 16-1 on the season. The Rebels get right back to it as they play at Garrettsville Garfield today.

Fitch improves to 10-8.

Crestview lost only four games during their 62-match winning streak, but dropped three in a row Wednesday.

The Falcons pulled away in the first game after being tied 19-19.

In the third game, the Rebels built a 12-6 lead. The Falcons closed the gap to 14-13 and took over with seven straight straight points to go ahead 20-14.

Leaders for the Rebels were Lainy Auer with 18 kills and 10 digs, Sophia Noling six kills, Sophia Stewart 16 assists and 10 digs, Kerrigan Miller 13 digs and Cam Davidson two kills and seven assists.

Crestview won the junior varsity match, 16-25, 25-22, 8-7. The third game was shortened to eight minutes because the televised varsity match had to start at 7 p.m. Haley Boano had 22 digs and Madelyn English eight kills and seven digs for the Rebels.

Crestview also won the freshman match, 25-18, 22-25, 15-12, with Addison Finch getting seven kills, 12 digs and six assists and Makenna Ray six kills and 14 assists.

East Palestine 3, Sebring 0

EAST PALESTINE — Kennedy Andre served 25 points with 13 aces as East Palestine rolled over Sebring, 25-12, 25-10, 25-12, Wednesday.

The Bulldogs improve to 9-9, while the Trojans fall to 1-15.

Cami Kridler collected 11 assists, nine points and six digs for the Bulldogs. Destiney Burtyk had eight kills, eight points and six aces, Marley Blythe six kills, five points and four aces, and Amara Wilson six kills and seven digs. Andre added nine assists and nine digs.

East Palestine also won the junior varsity match, 25-13, 26-14. For the Bulldogs, Kendyl McCowin had 11 points and three aces, Violet Glavan three kills and four points and Jacklyn Ogle four kills.

Both teams play today as East Palestine hosts Lisbon and Sebring entertains Western Reserve.

Southern 3, East 2

YOUNGSTOWN — Southern Local held off Youngstown East, 11-25, 25-17, 25-20, 19-25, 15-7, Wednesday. Southern improves to 11-8 and will host EOAC champion Columbiana today.

Leading the way for the Indians were Haylee Kellogg 13 points, 17 assists and eight kills, Katie Kellogg 10 points and 20 kills, Allyssa Shroades eight points and 10 kills, Natalia Lopez 10 kills, Kalayah Crute eight kills and three blocks and Brooke Boyle 12 digs.

East, which has lost twice to Heartland Christian and once to Salem this season, drops to 5-12.

Southern also won the junior varsity match, 19-25, 25-19, 25-6.

Oak Glen 3, East Liverpool 1

EAST LIVERPOOL — Averi Martin and Brayley Lash each had 15 kills in leading Oak Glen past East Liverpool, 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 25-15, Wednesday at the Potter Fieldhouse.

Oak Glen improves to 19-7-3, while East Liverpool lost for the third time in five matches to move to 13-6.

Brooklyn Six also had 11 kills and six aces for the Golden Bears. Haylee Stewart contributed eight kills and Mikalyn Balch made 38 assists. Keira Vick had 15 digs, Kendall Six seven digs and Ellie Smith four digs.

Ava Green totaled three aces, 14 kills and four blocks and Kendall Martin had five aces, two kills and 19 assists for the Potters. Presley Jones collected five kills and four blocks, Addie Jones three kills and two blocks Hailey Board two kills and five blocks, Ayla Riggle two assists and 17 digs and Lillie White two aces and one kill.

Oak Glen also won the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-20. Naomi Ayers and Caetlyn Six each had five kills for the Golden Bears. Zoey Caughey, Karter Turley and Audrina May each had three kills, Elynn Rogers 11 assists, Bryson Adams eight assists, Katie Kliner eight digs and Emri Greenlief three digs.

The Potters got four aces and four kills from Peyton Tanner, three kills from Koli Spencer and two aces from Taylor Loedding.

East Liverpool will play at Louisville today.
