Eagles run out of time
SANDUSKY — United’s boys soccer team gave it all they had in a Div. V regional semifinal on Wednesday at Sandusky Perkins High School.
The Golden Eagles fell behind by by three goals at halftime only to come up one shy in the end in a 4-3 loss to Toledo Maumee Valley Country Day.
United, who won a district title as a 16th seed, ends the season 10-8-2. The Golden Eagles were on a five-game winning streak.
Cayden Pitts, Liam Jones and Dylan Williams scored for the Eagles. Jones’ goal was his first of the season.
The Maumee Valley Country Day Hawks are 17-2-1 and will meet Ohio small school power Toledo Ottawa Hills in the regional title game on Saturday at Robert J. Bishop Jr. Stadium in Clyde. Ottawa Hills (10-9-2) beat Fort Jennings 5-1 on Wednesday to advance. The Hawks, who were the top seed in the Northwest district, beat Ottawa Hills 7-1 in the regular season.
Coming into the game, Maumee Valley Country Day was ranked third in Div. V by MaxPreps. United was 40th.
The Golden Eagles started off the season going 0-4 but rebounded once injuries and the lineup were settled later on in the season. United has made the regional tournament three out of the last five years under coach Curtis Jones.
