Crestview returns to winning ways
COLUMBIANA — The Crestview Rebels returned to their winning ways Saturday.
The Rebels, who had their 62-match regular-season win streak snapped last week and lost consecutive matches for the first time in three years, took it out on Salem in a 25-18, 25-13, 25-19 victory.
Crestview improves to 17-2, while Salem drops to 6-14.
Lainy Auer totaled 26 kills, two aces and 13 digs and Sophia Stewart collected 45 assists and nine digs to lead the Rebles. Sophia Noling contributed 11 kills, Addison Wendell four aces, Cam Davidson four kills and six digs and Sophia Dattilio four kills.
Crestview also won the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-7, to improve to 17-2. Kenna Ray had six kills and seven digs and Addison Finch 18 assists for the Rebels.
The Rebels made it a sweep by topping Salem, 25-10, 25-19, in the freshman match. For the Rebels, Tori Griffith had five kills, Haley Boano three aces and 11 digs and Piper Harvey four kills and six digs.
Crestview plays at Boardman today, while Salem travels to Girard on Tuesday.
McDonald 3, Columbiana 2
COLUMBIANA — Columbiana seems to out the best in McDonald.
The Blue Devils outlasted the Clippers, 17-25, 27-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-9, in matchup of league champions Saturday.
Columbiana has won 41 of its last 45 regular-season matches with three of the losses coming to McDonald.
The Clippers, champions of the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference, drop to 18-2 on the season, including a loss to Poland two weeks ago.
Evy Rapp totaled 10 points, four aces, six kills and 19 digs for the Clippers. Landry Smith collected eight points, four aces and 14 kills, Eva Waller six points, two aces, two kills, four digs and 36 assists,Addisyn Danlger three points, 16 kills and three digs, and Layla McCrthy made 25 digs.
The Blue Devils, champions the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Tier, improves to 16-3. The three losses were to Lakeview, Mineral Ridge and Crestview.
There was no junior varsity match.
Both teams play Tuesday as Columbiana travels to Shenandoah and McDonald visits Campbell Memorial.
