LEETONIA — The only suspense Tuesday was would Leetonia win its first game of the season.

The Bears came within two points of capturing its first game in a 25-6, 26-24, 25-12 loss to Wellsville.

Wellsville improves to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference. Leetonia has been swept in all seven matches this season.

After jumping out to a quick 16-2 lead on the way to victory in the first game, Wellsville had to work to win the second game.

Leetonia took a 5-1 lead after three service winners by Chloe Williams. Wellsville rallied to take a 6-5 lead as Ella Betz served three straight aces. The teams were tied at 10, 11, 12, 13, 20, 21 and 24. Wellsville’s Madie Drysdale gave the Tigers the victory with a kill and a service winner.

Both teams will play today with Wellsville at Toronto and Leetonia hosting Bloomfield today

Crestview 3, Garfield 0

COLUMBIANA — Lainy Auer had 23 kills, three aces and 13 digs in a Crestview 25-11, 25-11, 25-10 win over Garfield on Tuesday.

Sophia Stewart added 33 assists, three aces and 12 digs, while Bella Ciapala had five kills. Sophia Noling added five kills and two blocks, while Cam Davidson had five kills. Sophia Dattilio had five blocks and Kerrigan Miller had 15 digs. Addison Wendell had three aces.

Crestview is 10-0 and 8-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division.

Crestview won the jayvee match, 25-16, 26-15. Sarah Hively had eight kills, while Killy Lipply had two kills, four aces and 14 points.

Crestview is at LaBrae on Thursday.

Columbiana 3, Southern 1

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana rolled past Southern Local 25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 25-16 to improve to 8-0 on the season.

The Clippers also lead the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference with a 6-0 mark. The Clippers have only lost two sets all season.

Landry Smith had 18 kills, an ace, two blocks and three points. Eva Waller had four kills, four aces, 30 assists, nine points and two digs. Addison Dangler had 12 kills, four aces, two blocks, 12 points and seven digs. Eva Rapp had six kills, 12 points and eight digs. Layla McCarthy had two kills and 15 digs. Kaydynce Hamner added three kills.

Brooke Boyle had 11 points and eight digs for the Indians. Allyssa Shroades collected 10 points, four digs and 12 assists; Haylee Kellogg eight points, 14 assists and four kills; Katie Kellogg 12 kills and 14 digs; Kiah Sloan 10 kills; Natalia Lopez two solo blocks and two kills; Kalayah Crute two blocks and four kills; Addy Martin eight digs; and Maddy Tsesmilles two digs.

Columbiana’s jayvees were a 17-25, 25-19, 25-8 winner. Ella Eisenbraun had five kills, three aces, eight assists and 13 points. Ava Marks had nine kills, four points and five digs. Riley Fisk added 10 points. Harper Cuff had three kills, three aces and 15 points.

Mary Beadnell served 10 points for the Indians andKhloe Ensinger added seven.

Both teams return to league play Thursday as Columbiana hosts Lisbon and Southern entertains Wellsville for a varsity-only contest at 6 p.m.

West Branch 3, Salem 2

SALEM — West Branch’s volleyball had to go to five to escape Salem, 25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 23-25, 15-8, in a highly-contested Eastern Buckeye Conference showdown.

West Branch moved to 7-5 and 4-1 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference Tuesday.

Abigail Knickerbocker led the Quakers with 28 kills, two aces and a block. Olivia Lewis had 38 assists, three aces and a kill, while Kenna Mayhew contributed four kills and two aces. Ryann Vross added two kills and two aces, Macy Pieniazek three kills and a block, and Anija Jones two kills and two blocks. Angie Hoffaker had one kill and three aces. Alivia Ruth and Cheyanne Buday provided support in the backcourt.

Salem is 3-6 and 1-4 in the EBC.

West Branch won the jayvee match, 25-10, 25-16.

Salem hosts Alliance on Thursday.

West Branch hosts Minerva on Thursday.

Lisbon 3, East Palestine 2

LISBON — Lisbon edged East Palestine in a five-set thriller, 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13, Tuesday.

Lisbon is 5-5 and 2-5 in the league. For Lisbon, Stefanee Stacey had 40 assists and 28 points. Maddie Marshalek had 14 kills and four blocks. Addison Anderson had 14 kills and 11 digs. Alayna Householder had 10 kills and 12 digs. Hannah Davis had 19 digs and Abby Ammon added 13 digs.

Destiney Burtyk led the Bulldogs with 12 kills, 22 points, 10 aces and three blocks. Amara Wilson added 14 kills, 12 digs, 12 points and two blocks, while Marley Blythe had 10 kills and 13 digs. Cami Kridler had 22 assists, 13 digs and eight points, Kennedy Andre 11 assists, 13 digs, 10 points and three aces and Alyssa Dilling 22 digs.

Lisbon’s junior varsity won 25-14, 21-25, 25-14. For Lisbon, Brooklynn Klein smashed 10 kills. Gracyn Owens had six kills and 10 assists and six digs. Kylnn Boyd, Johanna Ford, Lexi Roush all had five digs. Chloe McCoy added three kills and two blocks.

East Palestine’s Jacklyn Ogle had six kills, Aliviana Valingo seven points and four aces, and Cadence Vargo three kills.

East Palestine (5-4, 4-2 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference) will host Valley Christian on Thursday. The Bulldogs have lost four straight.

Lisbon is at East Liverpool today.
