Salem handles Canton CC
CANTON — Salem’s football team rolled into Canton Central Catholic and came out with a 49-20 victory over the Crusaders on Friday.
It was Salem’s first victory over Canton Central in five tries dating back to 1969.
The Quakers are 2-2 and will host Beaver Local on Friday.
Tylor Steves scored the Quakers first touchdown, then Cletis Monroy recovered a fumble at the Crusader 14 and turned that into a passing touchdown to make it 14-0.
The Crusaders got one back on a 58-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown to cut the Quaker lead to 14-7.
The Quakers righted the ship with a 26-yard rushing touchdown near the end of the first quarter to push the advantage to 21-7.
A Hunter Marcum fumble recovery set up the Quakers next 1-yard yard touchdown near the start of the second quarter.
A Patrick Sciarretti 29-yard touchdown reception put Canton Central at 28-14 with eight minutes to go in the first half.
With five minutes to go in the first half, Salem added a 1-yard touchdown run to push its advantage to 35-14.
With two minutes to go in the third quarter Salem struck again with a 16-yard passing strike to make it 42-14.
Salem’s final score of the night was a 50-yard kick-off return with a minute left in the game.
