Salem blanks Rebels

COLUMBIANA — Salem’s girls soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to seven games with a 6-0 win over Crestview on Monday.

Karlie Sampson led the Quakers with two goals, while Maddy Andres, Gabby Coletta, Garryn Rohm and Emilee Lewis had single goals.

Ava Lee had two assists while Andres and French foreign exchange student Ambre LE Bourdais had assists.

Paige Menough and Kandie Duvall each had three saves in goals.

The Quakers took a 4-0 lead in the first half thanks to three goals in the opening 20 minutes.

Andres opened the scoring with 31:52 to play in the first half and Coletta scored on a long shot just inside the midfield mark at the 23:46 mark. Rohm made it 3-0 by scoring off a rebound at the net with 20:58 left in the half.

Salem is 10-2-3 overall and will be at West Branch on Wednesday. Salem is 3-0-1 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Warriors are 4-0. A win by Salem would give the Quakers the league title.

Crestview is 1-8-3 and will be at Brookfield on Wednesday. The Rebels have been shut out in four straight matches.

The Rebels’ best scoring chance Monday came right after the Quakers’ first goal as Sydney Wellman got behind the defense and her shot hit the crossbar.

Beaver Local 7, Sandy Valley 0

CALCUTTA– Beaver Local rolled past Sandy Valley 7-0 in girls soccer Monday night.

Peyton Dunn and Leah Stewart powered the Beavers’ attack. Dunn finished with three goals and an assist, while Stewart had two goals and two assists. Ally Wright added a goal and an assist, and Emily Saphore also scored. Jansen Ours chipped in two assists.

Dunn now has 30 goals on the season. Stewart had 19 goals and 21 assists.

Goalkeepers Tatum Duncan and Teneille Diaz-Wilson combined for the shutout, making four and three saves, respectively.

Beaver Local (13-1) will travel to Ursuline on Wednesday.

West Branch 1, Mooney 1

YOUNGSTOWN — Elli Colian had a goal on an assist from Cambrie Newbeth in a 1-1 West Branch girls soccer tie with Cardinal Mooney on Monday.

Audrey Eaton had six saves in goal for the Warriors, 11-0-2.

West Branch’s other tie came against Berkshire.

West Branch will host Salem on Wednesday with the EBC title on the line.

Mooney is 8-3-1.

Heartland 4, Jackson-Milton 2

NORTH JACKSON — Heartland’s soccer team scored all of its goals in the first half in a 4-2 win over Jackson-Milton on Monday.

Heartland is 5-7-2 and will play at Mathews on Oct. 9.

Ursuline 5, Columbiana 0

YOUNGSTOWN– Ursuline’s girls soccer team blanked Columbiana 5-0 on Monday.

Columbiana is 5-5-3 and hosts United on Wednesday.

Wheeling Central 5, Oak Glen 0

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. –Wheeling Central Catholic dialed up a 5-0 win over Oak Glen on Monday in girls soccer action.

Oak Glen is 5-7-3 and is at Edison on Tuesday.
