Quakers on fire

SALEM — Maxwell Zacharias had four goals and an assist in Salem’s 8-1 boys soccer win over Lakeview on Saturday.

Ronin Sutter added a goal and three assists. Venjamin Gallardo and Sergio Rebollo Alba had a goal and assist each. Jake Davis had a single goal tally.

Connor Plunkett had nine saves.

Salem is 9-2-2 and hosts West Branch on Tuesday.

Beavers fall in three

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — Beaver Local finished as runner-up in the Buckeye 8 volleyball championship Saturday, falling to Union Local 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 at the ECO Center.

Lily Schrieber led the Beavers with nine kills, eight digs and two aces. Sydney McNear added 10 kills and five digs, while Giada Williams chipped in four kills. Setter Bria Boyd handed out 27 assists to go with two aces and five digs. Addie Thurik tallied four kills and three digs, and Karsyn Bowyer anchored the defense with 15 digs.

Beaver Local (15-2) returns to action today with a tripleheader at Carrollton beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Union Local is 14-4.

Potters defeated

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — St. Clairsville secured third place in the Buckeye 8 Athletic League with a 26-24, 25-6, 25-7 win over East Liverpool on Saturday at the ECO Center.

East Liverpool falls to 12-5, while St. Clairsville is 15-2. The Potters are fifth in OVAC Class 4A, while St. Clairsville vaulted to second place behind Beaver Local.

Cutoff for the OVAC tournament is Thursday.

For the Potters, Ella Gunning had 11 assists, while Presley Jones had four kills and two blocks. Addie Jones and Hailey Board had two kills each. Kendall Martin had three kills and 12 assists. Ava Green had 11 kills.
