Clippers tame Tigers
COLUMBIANA — Columbiana stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Wellsville on Tuesday, 17-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-14.
The Clippers are now 12-0 overall and 9-0 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Landry Smith powered the attack with 14 kills, two aces, four points and three digs. Addisyn Dangler had nine kills, three aces and four digs, while Evy Rapp added five kills, four aces, 23 points and 16 digs.
Setter Eva Waller handed out 24 assists to go with three aces, five points and a dig. Hailee Gomoll chipped in a kill, an ace, five points and 12 digs. Ella Eisenbraun collected six digs and five assists, and Lily Jackson added 12 digs.
Kacie Salyers finished with a kill, an ace, a point and two digs. Izzy Jenkins had four points and a dig, and Addison Betts tallied four points, an ace and three digs.
Lisbon 3, Valley 0
YOUNGSTOWN — Lisbon breezed past Valley Christian 25-15, 25-11, 25-13 on Tuesday.
Stefanee Stacey had 16 assists and five kills, Addison Anderson tallied eight kills, and Maddie Marshalek added six kills. Hannah Davis led the defense with 12 digs. Alayna Householder scored 10 points and Lexi Roush had nine.
In the junior varsity match, Lisbon won 25-12, 25-13 behind Delaney Pickens’ 10 points and three kills and Cracyn Owens’ eight points and five kills.
Lisbon will host Heartland today.
East Palestine 3,
Leetonia 0
LEETONIA — East Palestine rolled to a 25-12, 25-9, 25-4 sweep at Leetonia on Tuesday to improve to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
For the Bulldogs, Kennedy Andre had 24 points, 10 aces, seven assists, Cami Kridler 12 points, 12 assists and six digs, Amara Wilson 10 kills and five digs, Destiney Burtyk 10 kills and 10 points, and Marley Blythe five kills and four digs.
In junior varsity action, East Palestine won 25-6, 25-4 behind Miranda Perkins’ 22 points and 11 aces, Marley Haldiman’s 10 points and seven aces, Cadence Vargo’s five kills and Violet Glavan’s four kills and two aces.
East Palestine hosts Southern on Thursday.
United 3, Southern 0
HANOVERTON — United stretched its winning streak to six by sweeping Southern, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Tuesday.
The Eagles are 11-3 overall and 7-1 in league play, one game behind unbeaten Columbiana. The Indians drop to 7-7 and 5-4 in the EOAC.
Allyssa Shroades topped Southern with 11 points, seven kills and 14 assists. Katie Kellogg added four points and eight kills, Natalia Lopez three kills and one solo block, Haylee Kellogg 12 assists and two kills, Kalayah Crute two kills and two blocks, Brooke Boyle six digs, Addie Martin five digs and Kiah Sloan had eight kills before suffering a knee injury on the last point of the second game.
United also won the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-14. Khloe Ensinger served six points for the Indians.
Both teams return to league play Thursday with United hosting Wellsville and Southern traveling to East Palestine.
Crestview 3, Southeast 0
LIBERTY — Crestview, ranked fourth in Div. V state coaches poll, scored a 25-12, 25-8, 25-8 win over Southeast on Tuesday.
For the Rebels (12-0, 9-0 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division, Lainy Auer had 18 kills, while Sophia Stewart added 27 assists, five aces and nine digs. Sophia Dattilio had six kills, while Bella Ciapala had five kills. Kerrigan Miller produced four aces and nine digs.
The Rebel jayvees won 25-11, 25-10. Madeline English had eight aces, seven kills and four digs. Phiatra Bradley added four aces and four kills.
Crestview hosts McDonald today.
Martins Ferry 3, Beaver Local 1
MARTINS FERRY — Beaver Local dropped its first match of the season with a 25-23, 16-25, 25-22, 25-20 loss to Martins Ferry on Tuesday.
Beaver Local is 11-1 and this was the first three sets the Beavers have lost all season. Martins Ferry is 8-4.
For Beaver Local, Addie Thurik had seven kills, Bria Boyd three kills, 39 assists, three aces and nine digs, Karsyn Bowyer two assists, three aces and 10 digs, Sydney McNear six kills, Eva McKnight 10 kills and two blocks, Sydney Wilson-Plunkett three aces and four digs, Giada Williams 10 kills, Lily Schrieber 11 kills, four aces, 14 digs and two blocks, Perri Gilson eight digs and Taylor Pease seven digs.
In junior varsity play, Beaver Local lost 25-20, 25-21. Macie Bourne and Sophia Gibson each had five kills, with Gibson also adding four digs. Leah Schrieber had four kills and eight assists, while Madison Poppelriter tallied four kills and six digs.
The Beaver also lost the freshman match 25-18, 27-25. Makayla Jungfleisch had eight kills, six aces and 10 digs, Jess Layman six kills and Gianna Congrove 20 assists.
The Beavers visit Harrison Central on Thursday.
Minerva 3, Salem 0
SALEM — Minerva was on target in a 25-14, 25-18, 25-9 victory over Salem on Tuesday.
Salem falls to 4-9 and 2-5 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Minerva is 7-8 and 4-3 in the league.
Salem’s jayvee volleyball team was a 25-18, 25-22 winner. Lacie Gainor had three aces and three kills. Maddie Biddle had three aces and eight assists.
Marlington 3, West Branch 0
ALLIANCE — West Branch’s volleyball team couldn’t gain any ground in the Eastern Buckeye Conference as league-leading Marlington topped the Warriors, 25-21, 25-16, 25-19, Tuesday.
The Dukes are 10-2 and 7-0 in the EBC. They can clinch a share of the league title with a win over Minerva on Thursday.
West Branch is 9-6 and 5-2 in the league. The Warriors will play at Alliance on Thursday.
Kendelle Hoopes led Warriors with six kills, five points and two digs. Kendyll Kaley had 6 points, two aces, two blocks and four digs; Abigail Janosik five points, three aces, three kills and five digs; Madi Hoopes four kills and two blocks; Chloey Sanor three points and four digs; Aislyn Ring eight assists and six digs; Ellyana Biskup five assists, two points and five digs; Sydney Lane seven digs and Audrey Ring and Cailyn Fritz each had five blocks.
Marlington also won the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-14.
Heartland 3, Chaney 0
COLUMBIANA — Heartland Christian improved to 9-5 with a 25-15, 25-7, 25-6 sweep of Youngstown Chaney on Monday.
Claire Liposky had nine kills, four aces and a block for the Lions. Keagan Pruitt added six kills, four aces and four digs, while Maddie Neville tallied six kills, two blocks and an ace. Capri Drokin chipped in three kills, four aces and a block, and Addie Barrett served six aces.
Makenna Wilson had 12 assists and an ace, and Emily McDowell added eight assists and two aces.
Union Local 3, Oak Glen 2
NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Oak Glen suffered a 25-23, 25-17, 18-25, 22-25, 9-15 loss to Union Local in a key OVAC Class 4A battle on Tuesday.
For Oak Glen (12-6-3), Brooklyn Six had 19 kills, two aces and 10 digs. Averi Martin added 16 kills, four aces and four blocks. Brayley Lash tallied nine kills and five digs, while Mattie Carney chipped in five kills. Mikalyn Balch handed out 49 assists and made 14 digs. Ellie Smith had four aces and seven digs, Layla Skavenski eight digs and Keira Vick 19 digs.
Oak Glen was second in the OVAC Class 4A standings, while the Jets were sixth entering the night.
In junior varsity play, Oak Glen won 28-26, 19-25, 25-23. Caetlyn Six led with seven kills, while Karter Turley, Zoey Caughey and Audrina May each had five. Kennedy Staley added four kills. Bryson Adams dished out 14 assists, and Elynn Rogers had 12 assists and six digs. Katie Kliner finished with 15 digs.
Oak Glen hosts Weir today.
