Clippers handed first loss
POLAND — Poland handed Columbiana its first loss of the season, 25-18, 25-222, 25-18, in volleyball action Monday.
Columbiana is 13-1. The Clippers travel to United in a key Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference match today. United trails Columbiana by one match in the league standings. If the Clippers beat United they will be two matches up with three to play.
For Columbiana, Evy Rapp had four kills, four points and 20 digs. Addisyn Dangler added 12 kills and six digs. Landry Smith had nine kills and four points. Layla McCarthy had 20 digs, while Eva Waller had 25 assists, five points and four digs.
Poland, which lost to United on Sept. 15 in four games, is 5-9 overall.
Poland won the jayvee match, 25-18, 25-14. Ava Marks had six digs. Abby Barborak added five assists, while Mikah Montgomery had six digs.
Youngstown Ursuline 3, Lisbon 0
LISBON — Youngstown Ursuline toppled Lisbon 25-22, 25-14, 27-25 on Monday.
For the Devils, Maddie Marshalek had seven kills and four digs, while Abby Ammon seven digs and three kills. Alayna Householder added 11 digs and two aces. Stefanee Stacey had 15 assists. Lisbon is 7-8.
Ursuline won the jayvee match, 25-12, 25-16. For the Devils, Brooklynn Klein had three kills, while Aria Reckner had five digs. Johanna Ford had six digs and Gracyn Owens had eight assists.
Lisbon is at Southern today.
Springfield 3, East Palestine 0
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield held off East Palestine in three close sets Monday night, winning 25-21, 25-23, 26-24.
For the Bulldogs, Cami Kridler had 13 assists, 11 digs and eight points. Destiney Burtyk finished with 15 kills and four blocks, while Amara Wilson added eight kills, eight digs, 10 points and three aces. Kennedy Andre contributed 14 digs and seven assists.
East Palestine is 6-8.
In JV action, Springfield won 25-8, 25-21. East Palestine’s Violet Glavan had four kills, three points and an ace, while Aliviana Valingo added two kills, seven points and three aces.
East Palestine visits Wellsville today.
Beaver Local 3, Buckeye 0
CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s volleyball team swept Buckeye Local 25-19, 25-7, 25-13 on Monday night.
Eva McKnight powered the Beavers with 12 kills. Addie Thurik and Lily Schrieber each had six kills, with Schrieber adding three digs. Sydney McNear had five kills, and Giada Williams chipped in four. Bria Boyd directed the offense with 28 assists, four aces and two kills. Sydney Wilson Plunkett served five aces, Taylor Pease had three digs and an ace, and Karsyn Bowyer anchored the back row with 15 digs and an ace. Perri Gilson added four digs and an ace, while Bailee Baker finished with a kill and three digs.
Beaver Local is 12-1.
In jayvee play, Beaver Local won 25-18, 25-11. Macie Bourne led with six kills, Madison Poppelriter had four kills and two aces, Maddy Gaydos recorded 10 digs, and Makayla Jungfleish had three kills and three aces.
Beaver Local travels to Oak Glen today with the freshmen match starting at 5 p.m.
East Liverpool 3, Brooke 0
EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool won its fourth match in a row by downing Brooke, 25-10, 25-17, 25-17, Monday.
Kamryn Yanni totaled 37 assists with two aces and two kills and Ava Green had 24 kills as the Potters improve to 11-3.
Kendall Martin collected nine aces and two kills, Presley Jones two aces and seven kills, Hailey Board one ace and seven kills, Addie Jones two kills and one block and Ayla Riggle three assists and 16 digs.
East Liverpool also won the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-12. For the Potters, Ella Gunning had three kills and 10 assists, Addie Smith two aces and four kills, Peyton Tanner three aces, two kills and seven assists, and Koli Spencer two aces and seven kills.
