Clippers finish third at OVAC girls tournament

WHEELING, W.Va. — Columbiana finished third on Wednesday to lead area teams at the OVAC Girls Golf Championships at Oglebay’s Crispin Course.

Columbiana shot 354 as a team and was behind champions Fort Frye (343) and Morgantown (352).

For the Clippers, Maddie Jackson finished ninth (83), while Alyssa Kakavros was 17th (88). Also for the Clippers, Victoria Buckingham had a 90 to take 20th, while Claire Banner and Hannah Moffett had 93s.

Beaver Local finished eighth as a team with a 392.

For Beaver Local, McKenzie Ash had a 90 and finished tied for 20th. Brenna Jones was slotted 24th with a 91. Mya Anderson carded a 101 and Georgie Long had a 110.

Southern was 11th with a 399.

For the Indians, Lola Perfetto shot 94, Rylee Digman 100, Alussa Deeley 101 and Kaitlyn Boston 104.

United took 12th with a 408.

For the Eagles, Emma Murphy had a 91, Olivia Ashburn 97, Claire Whetstone 99 and Alaina Brewer 121.

Heartland was 13th with a 423.

For the Lions, Khole Shodd shot a 93, Lila Hendershott 101, Selah Ciardi 111 and Aubrey Morgan 118.

EBC Tournament

LOUISVILLE — Minerva’s boys golf team shot a 340 as a team to take the Eastern Buckeye Conference tournament title on Wednesday at Pleast View Golf Club.

The Lions edged out Alliance (349), Carrollton (350), West Branch (351), Salem (361) and Marlington (371).

Leading the way was Reid Spall, who shot 80, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 12th hole. He finished second overall. Wil Blackburn and Tyson Fetty each carded 83s to tie for sixth place, while Benjamin Smith’s 94 rounded out the Lions’ scoring.

Senior Lucas Dyke led West Branch with a career best 81, his best round of his high school career. Gavin Clay finished with a score of 86, highlighted by a strong front nine of 38, just three over par. Rounding out the top four were Mason Runk with a 90 and Bennett Biggs with a 94.

Tournament

ZOARVILLE — Minerva’s girls golf team won the Eastern Buckeye Conference/Tri-County Postseason tournament on Wednesday at Zoar Golf Course.

The team shot 352. Peyton Beaumariage led with an 81. Shooting an 86, Emery Sell earned Tri-County Player of the year.

Minerva will play in the Div. I sectional tournament on Monday at Eaglesticks.

MVAC Gray

SALEM — Ravenna Southeast captured the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division boys golf title with a tournament victory on Wednesday at Salem Hills.

The Pirates shot 328 as a team. Southeast’s James Morgan was the medalist with a 75.

Crestview was fourth with a 355.
