Beaver stops Weir

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s girls soccer team sidestepped Weir for a 1-0 victory on its senior night Thursday.

Jansen Ours had the goal for Beaver and Tatum Duncan had 12 saves in goal.

Beaver Local is 10-1 and grabbed the top seed in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 4A tournament.

The Beavers will learn their opponent for next week’s tournament when the pairings are confirmed today.

Columbiana 3, Steubenville CC 1

COLUMBIANA — Annah Clemmer had two goals to help Columbiana defeat Steubenville Central 3-1 on Thursday.

Josie Hepler had the other goal.

Layla McCarthy, Larah Chamberlain and Camille Jeffries had assists. Columbiana is 5-3-3 and will await OVAC tournament status for next week.

East Liverpool 3, Oak Glen 0

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool’s boys soccer team scored a 3-0 win over Oak Glen on Thursday at Patterson Field.

The Potters improve to 3-5-1, while Oak Glen is 3-7-2.

Wyatt McCune got the Potters on the board with a free kick goal from 30 yards out with 33:40 left to go in the first half.

Greyson Fitch tallied his first goal on an assist from McCune with 25:50 left in the game. He added a second on an assist from Robert Gump with 9:07 to play.

Kodie Fennell had five saves in goal.

East Liverpool is scheduled to host Edison on Saturday.

Springfield 3, Crestview 0

COLUMBIANA — Springfield’s girls soccer team secured a 3-0 win over Crestview on Thursday.

The Rebels fall to 1-7-3 and have not scored in three games.

Crestview is at LaBrae on Wednesday.

Salem 5, Crestwood 0

MANTUA — Maxwell Zacharias had two goals to lead Salem to a 5-0 win over Crestwood on Thursday.

Jake Davis, Landon Bricker and Sergio Rebollo Alba had goals as well. Davis, Ronin Sutter and Chase Wilhelm had assists.

Salem is 8-1-2 and will host Marlington on Tuesday.

Mineral Ridge 1, Heartland 0

NORTH LIMA — Mineral Ridge scored a second-half goal to beat Heartland Christian 1-0 on Thursday in boys soccer action.

Heartland fell to 4-6-2.

Oak Glen 4, John Marshall 1

GLEN DALE, W.Va. — Oak Glen scored three goals in the second half to take command in a 4-1 girls soccer win over John Marshall on Thursday.

Oak Glen is 4-5-3, while John Marshall fell to 3-11.

Oak Glen sat fifth in the Class 4A OVAC standings coming into the night.

Thursday was the cutoff day for the tournament.
