Beaver Local soccer teams hit their stride

WEIRTON, W.Va. — Beaver Local stormed past Weir High 7-0 on Saturday in boys soccer action.

Brandon Smith had two goals and an assist for the Beavers, while Kaden Mays added two goals. Austin Holmes and Brayden Hall had the other Beaver goals. Evan Ours had an assist. Grady Reed had six saves, while Cole Long added three saves in goal.

Beaver Local is 7-2 and will host Brooke on Tuesday.

Beaver Local 7, Indian Creek 0

WINTERSVILLE — It was all Beaver Local in a 7-0 rout of Indian Creek on Saturday in girls soccer play.

Beaver Local is 9-1, while Indian Creek fell to 3-5. The win gave the Beavers the Buckeye 8 Athletic League title.

Emily Saphore and Riley Springer had two goals and an assist each. Leah Stewart added a goal and assist. Jansen Ours and Natalie Woodyard also had goals. Alexis Lasure and Emily Milner had an assist each.

Tatum Duncan had two saves in goal.

Beaver Local hosts Weir on Thursday for its senior night.

East Liverpool 2, Crestview 2

COLUMBIANA — Crestview and East Liverpool finished in a 2-2 tie in girls soccer Saturday.

Senior Adri Hodge and junior Isabella Novak each scored for the Rebels. Sophomore Haley Harbour and freshman Savannah Neville recorded assists. Freshman goalkeeper Clarice Harroff tallied six saves.

For East Liverpool, Renee Wright and Keira Coil scored. Adelyne McCready had an assist. Nariyah Monteiro had seven saves.

Crestview is 1-4-3, while East Liverpool is 2-42.

East Liverpool is at United on Tuesday.

Crestview is at Mooney today.

Crestview 2, East Liverpool 0

COLUMBIANA — Crestview’s boys soccer team scored a 2-0 win over East Liverpool on Saturday.

Alex Beveridge and Aiden Deem scored for the Rebels.

Crestview is 6-3 and is at Pymatuning Valley on Monday.

East Liverpool is 2-4-1 and hosts St. Clairsville on Tuesday.

University 4, Oak Glen 0

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — University downed Oak Glen 4-0 on Saturday.

Oak Glen fell to 3-5-2, while University is 8-1-1.

Oak Glen hosts Steubenville Central on Tuesday.

West Branch 1, Poland 0

POLAND — West Branch’s girls soccer team edged Poland 1-0 on Saturday.

Allie Brammer scored on an assist from Hailie Singer.

Audrey EAton had six saves.

West Branch is 8-0-1 and will be at Alliance on Wednesday.

Columbiana 1, Bristol 1

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana’s girls soccer team tied Bristol 1-1 on Saturday.

Columbiana is 3-3-3 and will be at Indian Creek on Tuesday.

Salem 0, Girard 0

SALEM — Salem’s girls soccer team fought to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

Paige Menough earned the shutout with five saves.

Salem is 6-2-2 overall and host Rootstown today.

VOLLEYBALL

West Branch 3, Lakeview 0

BELOIT — West Branch wrapped up a perfect week with a sweep of Lakeview on Saturday, 25-19, 25-16, 25-23.

The Warriors improved to 9-5.

Senior Abigail Janosik led the way with five aces, 14 points, six kills and five digs. Setters Aislyn Ring and Ellyana Biskup handed out 12 and 13 assists, respectively. Kendelle Hoopes chipped in nine kills and two blocks, while Madilyn Hoopes added nine kills and eight blocks. Kendyll Kaley tallied five kills, four blocks and seven digs, and Chloey Sanor posted 10 points, an ace and nine digs.

In junior varsity play, West Branch won in straight sets, 25-21, 27-25, to improve to 10-4.

West Branch visits Marlington on Tuesday for a key Eastern Buckeye Conference matchup with the Dukes, who sit one game ahead of the Warriors in the standings.

Columbiana 3, Jackson-Milton 0

COLUMBIANA — Columbiana rolled past Jackson-Milton 25-18, 25-21, 29-27 on Saturday to improve to 10-0 on the season.

Landry Smith led the Clippers with 16 kills, four aces and three assists. Addisyn Dangler added 12 kills and two blocks, while Eva Waller finished with eight kills and 36 assists. Evy Rapp tallied eight kills, four aces and four points, and Lily Jackson chipped in six kills and six digs. Layla McCarthy anchored the defense with 12 digs.

In the junior varsity match, Columbiana won 18-25, 25-21, 15-5, improving to 7-2 overall. Ella Eisenbraun had 11 assists and three aces, Ava Marks tallied six assists and four aces, and Abby Barbarak added six digs and four points. Mikan Montgomery had three kills and three blocks.

Columbiana travels to East Palestine today.

GOLF

Minerva takes third

MASSILLON — Minerva’s girls golf team finished third on Saturday at the Stark County Girls Invitational at the Legends of Massillon.

For the Lions, who had a 379 as a team, Emery Sell had an 85, Peyton Beaumariage 96, Delaney Sell 97 and Hannah Kirkpatrick 101.

Uniontown Lake won the tournament with a 338.
