Salem tennis team prevails in five hours

SALEM — The Salem girls tennis team came back from losing the first two matches for a 3-2 win over McDonald in a five-hour thriller Thursday at Waterworth Memorial Park.

Salem’s second doubles team of Haylee Foor and Devin Shafer won the final match by a tiebreaker in the third set to give the Quakers the victory at 9 p.m. under the lights.

The first doubles team of Grace Zellers and Eva Minto and third singles players Meadow Anderson alson won three-set matches for the Quakers.

Salem will play at Lordstown at 4 p.m. Monday.

FIRST SINGLES: Ava Kuntz (M) def. Hadley Carlisle, 7-5, 6-3.

SECOND SINGLES: Emma Bundy (M) def. Memphis Haueter, 7-5, 6-4 .

THIRD SINGLES: Meadow Anderson (S) def. Marcia McCracken, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

FIRST DOUBLES: Grace Zellers-Eva Minto (S) def. Sienna Gavitt-Maddie Hall, 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-4.

SECOND DOUBLES: Haylee Foor-Devin Shafer (S) def. Leah Evans-Katrina Sherro, 6-3, 6-7 (1), 7-6 (5).

McCready leads East Liverpool soccer

EAST LIVERPOOL — Adelyne McCready scored three goals in leading the East Liverpool girls soccer team past Indian Creek, 5-1, Thursday at Patterson Field.

Renee Wright collected one goal and three assists. Hailie Blake added an assists.

The Potters will travel to Cambridge on Aug. 28.

Fitch volleyball sweeps West Branch

AUSTINTOWN — Austintown Fitch swept West Branch, 25-15, 28-26, 25-14, in varsity volleyball action Thursday.

Leaders for West Branch were with seven kills, 10 blocks, five digs and two points; Madi Hoopes six kills six blocks and five digs; Chloey Sanor six points, five aces and seven digs; Aislyn Ring nine assists and three points; Kendelle Hoopes three kills, nine blocks, 11 assists and four digs; and Abigail Janosik three kills and two digs.

Fitch also won the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-14.

West Branch will host Howland and Jefferson Area in a tri-match at 10 a.m. Saturday.

United golfers top Leetonia

MINERVA — Davin Ingold shot a 43 in leading the United golf team past Leetonia, 177-240, Friday at Edgewater.

Also for the Eagles, Adam Looman and Oliver Kiko had 44s and Logan Courtney 46.

For Leetonia, Chase Bondi had a 53, Christian Kelly 59, Gray Henderson 63 and Addi Gray 65.

Crestview golfers down East Liverpool Christian

GLENMOOR — The Crestview golf team downed East Liverpool Christian, 169-203, Friday at Historic Highlands

Derek Duvall had the low round with a 38 for the Rebels. Grant Snyder added a 41, Braydon Gilbert 43 and Caleb Booth.

For East Liverpool Christian, Levi Williams had a 42, Noah Williams 48, Lucas Balser 51 and Kinsey Smith 62.

East Liverpool Christian plays Southern Local at Twins Springs on Tuesday.
