Crestview golfers set nine-hole record

CALCUTTA — Crestview made history Tuesday at Beaver Creek Meadows, defeating Liberty 153-262 while setting a new program record for lowest team score. The Rebels’ 153 broke the previous mark of 157 that had stood for 17 years.

Braydon Gilbert led the way with a medalist round of 36, followed closely by Derek DuVall (37), Grant Snyder (39) and Caleb Booth (41).

Liberty was paced by Alex Hauser, who carded a 52.

Crestview returns to action today at Old Dutch Mill Golf Course against Southeast.

Minerva 163,

West Branch 206

MINERVA — The Minerva girls golf team continued its perfect season Wednesday, setting a school record with a team score of 163 on holes 19-27 at Great Trail Golf Course in a 163-206 victory over West Branch.

Delaney Sell led the Lions with a career-best 38 to earn medalist honors. Sell and teammate Mady Bartley both recorded eagles on hole 25. Peyton Beaumariage added a 39, Emery Sell carded a 40, and Bartley rounded out the scoring with a 46.

For West Branch, Emma McLaughlin had a 47, while Isabella Linger had a 50, Katelyn Schank 54 and Brylee Moore 55.

Minerva improved to 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. The Lions will travel to Pleasant View on Sept. 3 to face Louisville.

VOLLEYBALL

Cardinal Mooney 0

YOUNGSTOWN –The Crestview volleyball team has been busy this week and the week isn’t over yet for the Rebels.

Playing their third match of the week, the Rebels bested Cardinal Mooney 25-3, 25-12, 25-21 on Wednesday.

Crestview will play its fourth in four days today against Brookfield at home.

The Rebels (5-0) were led by Lainy Auer’s 23 kills and two aces. Sophia Dattilio had four kills and three blocks, while Bella Ciapola had three kills. Sophia Stewart had 28 assists and seven digs.Kerrigan Miller had four aces and 10 digs, while Val Boyd had seven aces.

Crestview won the jayvee match, 25-12, 25-16.

Addison Finch had 22 assists and three aces. Kelsey Houp had six kills as did Lainey Milhoan.

Lisbon 3, Malvern 0

LISBON — Lisbon’s volleyball team defeated Malvern 25-18, 25-11, 25-20 on Wednesday.

Maddie Marshalek led the Devils with 12 kills, eight digs and three blocks, followed by Gionna Lenigar with eight kills and two blocks. Hannah Davis had 11 digs, Alayna Householder seven digs and four kills, and Addison Anderson four kills, nine digs and 19 points. Stefanee Stacey added 28 assists, five kills and 10 digs.

The Devil junior varsity team fell 25-22, 25-22. Lexi Roush had six digs and nine points, Olivia Smith two kills, Chloe McCoy one kill and a block, Brooklynn Klein two kills, and Aria Reckner and Gracyn Owens three assists each.

Lisbon will host Southern Local today in the Spike Out cancer match.

West Branch 3, Minerva 1

MINERVA — West Branch opened Eastern Buckeye Conference play with a four-set win at Minerva on Tuesday, 25-15, 17-25, 25-23, 25-16.

The Warriors (4-3, 1-0 in the EBC) rallied in the pivotal third set, erasing a 23-17 deficit to win 25-23 behind the serving of Audrey Ring. She finished with 14 service points, one ace, eight kills, five blocks and nine digs. Kendelle Hoopes added nine kills, 17 assists, eight points, three aces, four blocks and three digs. Madilyn Hoopes had 11 kills, six blocks and a dig, while Abigail Janosik contributed seven kills and a dig. Aislyn Ring recorded 16 assists, four digs, four points and an ace, and Sydney Lane chipped in six points, an ace and six digs.

The Warrior junior varsity also won, 25-15, 26-24.

West Branch will host Marlington on Thursday.

SOCCER

West Branch 4, Boardman 0

BELOIT — West Branch’s girls soccer team remained unbeaten with a 4-0 win over Boardman on Wednesday.

West Branch is 4-0-1, while Boardman fell to 0-4-1.

West Branch hosts Warren JFK on Saturday.

Crestview 3, Mineral Ridge 1

MINERAL RIDGE — Crestview’s boys soccer team scored three goals in the first half to earn a 3-1 win over Mineral Ridge on Wednesday.

Crestview is 2-2 and will host Jackson-Milton next Wednesday.

United 7, Indian Creek 0

WINTERSVILLE — United’s girls soccer team beat Indian Creek 7-0 on Tuesday.

For the Eagles, Elli Powers had three goals, while Bella Thompson had two goals. Kiley Hetherington had a goal and assist as did Natalie Shipley. Kylie Holmes had an assist. Calee Ruthrauff had four saves.

United is 2-3 and will play at Columbiana today.

TENNIS

West Branch 4, Alliance 1

ALLIANCE– The West Branch girls tennis team opened Eastern Buckeye Conference play with a 4-1 victory over Alliance on Wednesday at the University of Mount Union courts.

The Warriors improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the league.

West Branch hosts Salem today.
