Clippers sweep Devils
LISBON — Columbiana’s volleyball team opened its Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title defense with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-21 win over Lisbon on Tuesday.
For the Clippers (2-0, 1-0 in the EOAC), Evy Rapp had three kills, four aces, 11 points and six digs. Landry Smith added 12 kills and three blocks. Addison Dangler had eight kills, nine aces, two blocks and 14 points. Layla McCarth had a kill and seven digs. Eva Waller had a kill, three aces, 24 assists, eight points and two digs.
In jayvee action, Columbiana won 25-13, 25-14. Ella Eisenbraun had four kills, two aces, six assists and 11 points. Ava Marks had three kills, three aces, four points and five digs. Abby Barborak had four aces and two assists. Riley Fisk had three kills.
Columbiana is at Wellsville on Thursday for a varsity only match.
East Palestine 3, Valley 0
YOUNGSTOWN — East Palestine swept Valley Christian 25-6, 25-21, 25-4 on Tuesday to move to 2-0 on the young campaign.
Cami Kridler led the Bulldogs with 22 points, 11 assists and five digs. Kennedy Andre added 21 points, nine aces and six assists, while Marley Blythe contributed nine digs, five kills and three aces. Emma Gingher had six kills and three blocks and Amara Wilson added five digs and five blocks.
The Bulldogs are 1-0 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
The Bulldogs’ junior varsity also won, 25-14, 25-10. Miranda Perkins led with 15 points and six aces and Kendyl McCowin added 11 points and four aces.
Southern 3, Wellsville 0
WELLSVILLE — Southern got into the swing of things in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener with a 25-17, 25-17, 26-16 win over Wellsville on Tuesday.
Southern is 1-1, while Wellsville is 0-1.
Natalia Lopez topped the Indians with 12 points, six kills and one block. Allyssa Shroades totaled 10 points, two aces, three kills and eight assists. Katie Kellogg had five kills, Haylee Kellogg seven assists and Kiah Sloan three kills and two blocks.
The Indians host United on Thursday.
Wellsville hosts defending EOAC champion Columbiana on Thursday.
United 3, Leetonia 0
HANOVERTON — United’s volleyball cruised past Leetonia 25-11, 25-12, 25-3 on Tuesday in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play.
For the Eagles, Aurianna Cusick had 20 points and 13 aces. Rileah Phillips added 13 points and six aces.
In the jayvee portion, United won 25-10, 25-12. Brennan Ritchie had five kills and four aces. Gwyndalen Haynes had 10 points and nine aces. Kenley Landgraver added six aces.
United is 2-1 and 1-0 in the EOAC. The Eagles are at Southern on Thursday.
Beaver Local 3, Minerva 0
CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s varsity volleyball team opened its season with a 25-14, 25-22, 25-21 win over Minerva on Tuesday.
Lily Schrieber had 10 kills, four assists and eight digs for the Beavers. Sydney McNear added nine kills, Eva McKnight eight kills, two digs and two blocks, and Giada Williams eight kills and two blocks. Bria Boyd contributed four kills, 29 assists and three digs, while Karsyn Bowyer had six digs. Addie Thurik had three kills.
The Beaver junior varsity also won, 25-15, 25-18. Madison Poppelriter led with four kills and a block, Mikayla Jungfleisch added five kills and three digs, and Ava Nocella and Madi Gaydos each had seven digs. Leah Schrieber recorded three kills, 18 assists and three digs.
Beaver Local’s freshman opened Monday with a 25-10, 23-25, 25-15 win over Canfield, led by Gianna Congrove’s 13 points.
Beaver Local will host Edison on Thursday.
Heartland 3, Mathews 2
COLUMBIANA — Heartland Christian edged Mathews, 25-17, 19-25, 25-14, 18-25, 15-9, Tuesday.
Keagan Pruitt had 12 kills, 13 digs and two aces, while Claire Liposky added 12 kills, seven digs, an ace and a block. Maddie Neville totaled nine aces, five kills and 10 digs. Emily McDowell dished out 20 assists with 17 digs and Makenna Wilson added 19 assists and 11 digs.
West Branch 3, West Geauga 2
BELOIT — West Branch outlasted West Geauga in five sets, 25-17, 20-25, 25-18, 25-27, 15-13, Monday.
Freshman Madi Hoopes led with 16 kills, six blocks, seven points and eight digs. Audrey Ring added seven kills, three aces, 12 points, nine blocks and 12 digs, while Kendyll Kaley had five kills, two aces, six points, seven blocks and 16 digs.
Setters Aislyn Ring and Kendelle Hoopes finished with 17 and 15 assists, respectively. K. Hoopes also tallied 11 kills, eight points, eight blocks and 15 digs, while Ring had 10 points and 14 digs.
West Branch’s junior varsity fell in three sets, 22-25, 25-21, 15-25.
The Warriors visit Austintown Fitch on Thursday.
