Salem hosts EBC Meet

SALEM -- Salem will host the sixth Eastern Buckeye Conference Track and Field Meet today.

Action starts at Sebo Stadium at 4:30 p.m. with the field events and 3200-meter relay finals. The rest of the running events will begin at 5:30 p.m. as timed finals.

The Salem girls have won the last four years, while Marlington captured the boys team title last year.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.

EOAC Meet on Saturday

EAST PALESTINE -- The seventh Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference Track and Field Meet will be held Saturday at Reid Stadium.

Columbiana swept the boys and girls team titles last year, their first league titles since 2017.

The field events and 3200-meter relay finals will start at 10 a.m. The rest of the running events will beginat 11 a.m. as timed finals.

Butcher wins 400 meters

ALLIANCE -- Logan Butcher is having an outstanding freshman season at the University of Mount Union.

Butcher, a South Range High School graduate, won the 400 meters at the Mount Union Last Chance Track Meet at Kehres Stadium on Thursday afternoon. His winning time of 47.24 seconds is tied for 19th in NCAA Division III and may qualify him for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships at Spire Institute next Thursday through Saturday.

Eight of the 17 men's runners went under 50 seconds in the meet.

Butcher ranks third on South Range's list in the 400 meters (49.63 in 2024).

He is also a kicker on the Mount Union football team.

United youth football camp

HANOVERTON -- The United Golden Eagles will host a free youth football camp on May 31 at the football stadium.

The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon and will feature Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and his brother Aidan Sayin from the University of Pennsylvania. Players and coaches from United, Youngstown State, Ashland, Walsh and Geneva College will be present. Register at unitedgridironcamps.com.

The camp is hosted by Soldiers to Sidelines and the United Gridiron Club.
