Salem puts out Firelands

SALEM -- Salem's softball team produced consistent offense in a 10-3 win over Oberlin Firelands on Thursday in a Div. IV sectional opener.
For 17th-seeded Salem, Emilee Lewis had two hits including a double with an RBI. Hadley Carlisle added two hits and two RBIs. Channing Toy had a hit and two RBIs.
Lewis also was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts and seven walks in seven innings. Lewis, who walked three of the first seven batters, threw 130 pitches against the 19th-seeded Falcons (9-13).
The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on two walks, a wild pitch and a two-run single by Sarah Blankenship.
Salem scored a run in the bottom of first as Channing Toy was hit by a pitch on the first pitch, stole second, went to third in a fielder's choice and scored on an error.
The Quakers added three more in the second inning on a Toy two-run single and a Carlisle RBI single.
Salem went up 7-2 in the third inning by scoring three runs with two outs. Two wild pitches allowed two runs to score and Lewis followed with an RBI double to the left field fence.
The Quakers (11-12) will host No. 18 seed West Geauga on Tuesday in the district semifinal.

Crestview 8, Smithville 4
COLUMBIANA -- Crestview didn't need to do much more to take out Smithville on Thursday in the completion of a suspended Div. VI sectional contest.
The ninth seeded Rebels led 8-4 in the sixth when rain and lightning stopped the game in the sixth inning on Wednesday. The score remained the same in the end.
Chloe Stoops led the charge with three hits including a double with an RBI for the Rebels. Rylee Cloutier added three hits, while Emma Snyder had a single, double and three RBIs. Kerrigan Miller had two doubles and an RBI. Alivia Shetler had a single, home run and three RBIs.
Snyder got the win with seven strikeouts and three walks in seven innings.
Crestview (14-9) will play at No. 4 seed Mineral Ridge on Monday in the district semifinal.
Today the Rebels will travel to LaBrae for a regular season game.

Brookfield 16, Lisbon 3
LISBON -- Lisbon's softball team couldn't rally on Thursday as it completed a suspended game with Brookfield in a 16-3 defeat in five innings in a Div. VII sectional contest.
No. 16 seed Brookfield led 8-0 when the game was suspended in the fourth inning on Wednesday due to weather. No. 8 Lisbon allowed a total of six runs in the fourth and four in the fifth to see its chances of advancing disappear.
Abby Ammon led the Devils with two hits. Emelia Cook had a triple.
Kamryn Peruchetti took the loss with four strikeouts and no walks in five innings.
Lisbon is 9-16. Brookfield (5-11) will travel to No. 6 Badger on Monday in the district semifinal.

West Branch 17, Trinity 0
BELOIT -- Ellie Tucker threw a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and a walk in West Branch's 17-0 win over Garfield Heights Trinity in a Div. IV sectional opener on Thursday.
Tucker added two doubles and three RBIs at the plate.
Zoe Metzgar and Carly Loper had doubles for the sixth seeded Warriors. Addi Craven added a triple and two RBIs.
Trinity was the 33nd seed.
West Branch (18-6) will host No. 22 Ravenna on Tuesday in a district semifinal.

Columbiana 14, Southeast 5
COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana softball team is coming on at the right time.
Caitlynn Pleska belted her 16th home run of the season while adding two RBIs as the Clippers mowed down Ravenna Southeast 14-5 in a regular-season game Thursday.
Pleska has 65 RBIs on the season and a state record 221 for her career according to records submitted to the Ohio High School Athletic Association. She is batting .731 this season.
Addison Brode added two hits and four RBIs. Maryn Hepler had a single, double and an RBI. Kyla Hogan had three hits and three RBIs.
Columbiana (20-6) will travel to Maplewood for a regular season game today.
Southeast is 16-7.
