Crestview 66, LaBrae 62

COLUMBIANA — Crestview pulled off the stunner of the season in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Tier.

The Rebels handed LaBrae its first league loss with a shocking 66-62 victory Friday.

LaBrae had its nine-game winning streak snapped to fall to 14-5 and 10-1 in the MVAC, one game ahead of Newton Falls. The Vikings could have clinched a share of the league title Friday.

Crestview — which lost to the Vikings, 63-29, on Jan. 13 — improves to 7-13 overall and 5-7 in league play.

The Rebels trailed 46-45 through three quarters and outscored the Vikings 21-16 in the deciding fourth quarter.

Both teams return to league play Tuesday as Crestview hosts Liberty LaBrae visits Garrettsville Garfield.

Wellsville 56, United 40

HANOVERTON — Andrew Mackey and Tyrell Watkins combined for 39 points and 23 rebounds in leading Wellsville past United, 56-40, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Friday.

Mackey totaled a career-high 21 points, including at least two baskets in every quarter, and 12 rebounds. Watkins had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Darnell Roe contributed 11 points, Landon Ramsey had 10 rebounds and eight assists and freshman Jeron Jackson dished out six assists.

The Tigers improve to 8-11 overall and 6-7 in league play. The Eagles lost for the seventh time in eight games to drop to 4-15 and 2-10 in the EOAC.

Wellsville outscored United a combined 33-18 in the first and third quarters for the victory.

Trent Ellyson led the Eagles with 12 points, including a pair of fourth-quarter three-pointers.

United won the junior varsity game, 51-48, behind Kota Shasteen’s 17 points. Gage Vance had 17 for the Tigers.

Both teams play Tuesday as United hosts EOAC co-leader Columbiana and Wellsville entertains Barnesville.

LISBON — A.J. Ramgeet had 22 points and nine rebounds as Lisbon downed Leetonia 67-39 on Friday.

Blaine Barnes added 19 points, while Aidan Ramgeet had 11 points and five steals. Luke Kraft had 13 rebounds.

For Leetonia, Ryan Spotleson had 11 points, while Dylan Brown added 10 points.

Lisbon won the jayvee game, 46-35. For the Devils, Mason Jones had 10 points. Jason King had 15 points for the Bears.

Lisbon (11-8 and 8-5 in the EOAC) is at Heartland on Saturday.

Leetonia is 4-15 and 0-13 in the EOAC.

BOWERSTON — Heartland Christian’s boys basketball team controlled Conotton Valley for a 71-52 road win on Friday.

After the Rockets exploded for 23 points in the first quarter, the Lions limited the home team to 29 total points the rest of the game.

Heartland is 13-4 and will host Lisbon on Saturday

Union Local 66, Beaver Local 55

BELMONT — Union Local got 22 points from Billy Schumacher in a 66-55 win over Beaver Local on Friday.

Beaver Local led 19-14 after the first quarter and 33-30 at the half. The Jets led 49-42 at the end of the third quarter.

Beaver Local is 14-6 and is at East Liverpool for an OVAC Class 4A semifinal on Tuesday.

Union Local is 15-5.

Wheeling Central 88, Oak Glen 16

WHEELING, W.Va. — Wheeling Central Catholic got the ball rolling early and often in an 88-16 win over Oak Glen on Friday.

The Maroon Knights led 25-3 after the first quarter and 46-9 at the half.

For Oak Glen, Colt Hissam had six points, while Mason Kell added four points. Tyler Evans had three points and Will Weekley had two points.

Oak Glen fell to 5-13. Central is 13-2.

Oak Glen is at Buckeye Local on Tuesday.
