Quakers slip by Lions
MINERVA — Salem’s girls basketball team edged out Minerva 41-37 on Wednesday in Eastern Buckeye Conference play.
Salem moved to 6-6 and 3-3 in EBC play. Minerva fell to 5-8 and 1-5.
Abby Knickerbocker paced the Quakers with 15 points and seven rebounds. Maddy Andres had nine points and five rebounds. Rylee Davidson-Chuck had five steals.
Salem won the jayvee game 28-26 on a game-winning bucket by Shawn Burkhart.
Salem hosts Springfield today.

ALLIANCE — West Branch’s girls basketball team scored a 51-21 victory over Marlington on Wednesday in Eastern Buckeye Conference play.
West Branch is 10-1 and 7-0 in the EBC. The Warriors lead the league by a game over Carrollton with three league games left — Jan. 15 at Alliance, Jan. 22 at Carrollton and Jan. 29 versus Salem.
West Branch led the Dukes 5-4 in the first before scoring the next 13 points to take control.
Hallie Vie Burton led the way with 16 points. Audrey Eaton added 11 points.
West Branch will visit Cardinal Mooney on Saturday.
West Branch’s jayvee team won 41-17. Addison Reichenbach led the way with nine points.
Southern 63, Toronto 42
TORONTO — Southern Local’s girls basketball team went on the road and bounced Toronto 63-42 on Wednesday.
The Indians moved to 9-5, while Toronto fell to 4-7.
Southern is currently second in the OVAC Class 2A standings, while Toronto was fourth. The cutoff date for the OVAC girls tournament is Jan. 27 with the tournament being held the week of Feb. 3.
Haylee Kellogg sparked the Indians with a career high 14 points. She also added 12 rebounds, four steals and an assist. Makenna Jones added 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Allyssa Shroades had 13 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals. Maddy Jones had 10 rebounds.
Southern will host Valley Christian today.

LOUISVILLE — Beaver Local’s wrestling team dropped a 57-19 decision to Louisville in a dual match on Wednesday.
Beaver Local is set to take part in the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League championships on Friday and Saturday at Austintown Fitch.
Steubenville 18, East Liverpool 17
EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool’s girls wrestling team lost to Steubenville 18-17 on Wednesday.
BOWLING
Salem boys win
SALEM — Salem’s boys bowling team beat Alliance 2,172-1515 on Wednesday at Hunt Club Lanes.
Keegan Sommers led with a high game of 247 and a 458 series. Connor Hippley added a 235 high game and a 456 series.
Salem won the girls match 1,462-895 for its first program win. Brooklynn Herold had a high game of 203 and a 365 series for the Quakers. Kylie Smith added a 161 high game and a 321 series.
Salem hosts Marlington on Friday at Hunt Club Lanes.
