Beavers short of state

ZANESVILLE -- Beaver Local junior golf Mikey Druschel came within five strokes of a state berth.

Druschel shot an 18-hole score of 79 to finish 14th out of 48 golfers in the Division II boys district tournament Monday at Eagle Sticks Golf Club.

River View freshman Gavin Cross was the medalist with a 68. Indian Valley junior Deagan Beaber won a playoff for the last state qualifying spots. Beaber and Meadowbook's Ben Coss tied for second with 74s.

The top two teams and top two individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the state tournament in Akron on Oct. 13-14 at Firestone Country Club's North Course.

The Beaver Local boys finished sixth in the team standings with 352.

St. Clairsville won the district title with 309, one better than John Glenn.

The boys district tournaments continue today with West Branch and South Range in the Division II district at Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna and Columbiana in the Division III district at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance.
