MINERVA -- Beaver Local opened its season by sweeping Minerva, 25-11, 25-18, 25-17, Tuesday.
Jocelyn Pomeroy had eight kills, 11 aces and five digs and Adison Ketchum had eight kills to power the Beavers. Aleia Evanko contributed four kills, 12 assists and five digs, Lily Schrieber five aces and six digs, Bria Boyd 11 assists and Karsyn Bowyer 11 digs.
Beaver Local also won the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-14. For the Beavers, Perri Gilson had 19 points, nine aces and nine digs and Addie Thurik had three aces, two kills, five assists and four digs.
The Beavers will play at Union Local on Thursday.
Southern 3, Toronto 0
SALINEVILLE -- Southern opened the season with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-21 win over Toronto on Tuesday.
Allyssa Shroades led the Inians with 11 points, seven assists and three kills. Kennedy Lewis had nine points and 10 digs and Cheyenne Buzzard nine points with three aces. Kyiah Sloan collected five kills and two blocks and Cheyenne Bennett had seven points and seven assists.
Toronto won the junior varsity match, 21-25, 25-17, 25-16. Haylee Kellogg had 15 points for the Indians and Hailey Maines added seven.
Southern will host Heartland Christian today.
