SALINEVILLE--Cheyenne Buzzard had one hit, one run scored and one RBI that lifted 11th-seeded Southern over 12th-seeded Rittman 2-1 in the Division IV sectional opener on Monday.
Buzzard hit a double to center field that allowed Kennedy Lewis to score and tie the game at 1-1 in the first inning. Buzzard later scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning when Destiny Huffman grounded out to allow Buzzard to score.
Alexis Ensinger earned the win for the Indians allowing zero earned runs on four hits with two walks and 13 strikeouts.
Southern improves to 9-7 and will play at Leetonia on Thursday.

Wellsville 23, Springfield 10
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Five Wellsville players collected at least three hits as 30th-seeded Wellsville pounded 27th-seeded Springfield, 23-10, in five innings of a Division IV sectional opener Monday.
Lillian Plumley led the attack by going 4-for-4 with a double, five runs and two RBIs.
Amiyah Powell added three hits, five RBIs and three runs, while Mackenzie Nixon had three hits, four runs and three RBIs and Kaylee Rawson had three hits and three runs. M. Landess also had three hits and two runs.
Winning pitcher M. Landess added two hits and two RBIs. She allowed four earned runs with eight strikeouts and no walks.
Wellsville advances to play at top-seeded Mathews on Wednesday.
Freshman Gracie Maldonado topped Springfield by going 3-for-4 with two runs. Sophomore Gina Romeo drove in four runs on two hits.
Springfield gave up five earned runs.

Lowellville 12, Lisbon 2
LOWELLVILLE-- No. 28-seeded Lisbon ran into a roadblock as it fell to 18th-seeded Lowellville 12-2 in five innings in the IV sectional opener Monday.
Natalee Macejko led Lowellville with one RBI, two hits and three runs scored, while Sophia Alfano had two RBIs, two hits and two runs scored.
Alfano was the winning pitcher allowing two earned runs on eight hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Marah Householder had two hits and one run scored for the Blue Devils Morgan Lively had one hit and one run scored.
Lively was the losing pitcher, allowing 10 earned runs on 11 hits with seven walks and six strikeouts.
Lisbon is scheduled to play at Malvern on Friday.

Cardinal 35, Leetonia 1
MIDDLEFIELD--Leetonia made 14 errors in the field of play as it fell 35-1 to Cardinal in the Division IV sectional opener in five innings Monday.
Martina Cole had the only hit for the Bears and Morgan Mertzweiler scored the only run.
Kayla Kaminski was the losing pitcher for the Bears allowing nine earned runs on 19 hits with eight walks through four innings.
Leetonia will host Souhern in regular-season play Thursday.

United 10, Carrollton 8
CARROLLTON -- Madelynn Lucas' two-run double highlighted a five-run seventh inning that lifted United past Carrollton, 10-8, in regular-season play Monday.
Lucas totaled three hits, drove in three runs and scored two more to account for half of the Eagles' runs.
Mati Zines added three hits and two RBIs. She was the winning pitcher, allowing five earned runs with three strikeouts and two walks in the complete-game effort. Grace Coffee also scored two runs.
Maleyna Havens and Hannah Little each had three hits for Carrollton with Havens scoring three runs and Little two.
United improves to 16-3, while Carrollton drops to 6-16. United will host Beaver Local today.

COLUMBIANA --Salem scored three runs in each of the first two inning and beat Crestview, 8-5, in regular-season play Monday.
Emilee Lewis drove in three runs for the Quakers and was the winning pitcher, allowing four earned runs with 14 strikeouts and eight walks in a 169-pitch effort.
Channing Toy drove in two runs and scored two more. Lauryn Barton and Mikayla Sneltzer each scored two runs.
Salem improves to 6-13, while Crestview drops to 8-13.
Rylee Cloutier had two of Crestview's six hits. Chloe Stoops added a double.

Howland 13, Columbiana 3
COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana's 12-game winning streak came to an end with a 13-3 loss to Howland in five innings Monday.
The Clippers wrap up the regular season at 22-4.
Brooke Tatar topped Howland with three RBIs and pitching the complete-game victory, striking out seven and walking three.
Maya Kubancsek went 3-for-4 with a home run and Madison Schmitz ad two hits, two RBIs and two runs.
Caitlynn Pleska hit a fifth-inning home run and scored two runs for the Clippers. Alaina Johnston, Ava Davanzo and Mackenzi Gamble each had two hits.
Gamble took the loss, giving up 10 runs, nine earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 2 1/3 innings.
