East Liverpool wears Buckeye 8 crown

By From Staff Reports 3 min read

CAMBRIDGE -- East Liverpool's wrestling team won the Buckeye 8 Athletic League Tournament title on Saturday at Cambridge High School.

The Potters scored 206 1/2 points, followed by St. Clairsville with 190.

"We're very proud of this young team and their work ethic/commitment," East Liverpool coach Jeremy Shaw said. "Earlier this season we lost a few close dual matches -- by one points to Wheeling Park and three points to Massillon Jackson while still missing a few weight classes or our team dual record would be 10-5 (currently 9-7)."

Kyle Ingram (106 pounds), Tristian Eckles (113), Aaron Lara (165) and Xavier Lara (175) won titles for the Potters.

"We have continuously improved," Shaw said. "Now to finish our last regular season tournament at Cambridge, taking home Buckeye 8 Tournament team trophy before sectionals, shows us we're on the right path."

Beaver Local did not participate.
