Waterloo 26, Lisbon 16
ATWATER -- Lisbon had a good chance to sweep its non-league slate and go 3-0 for the first time since 2016 when it had first down and goal from the 7 with less than five minutes left and down four points in the game against Waterloo on Friday.
Unfortunately three straight penalties pushed the Devils well out of range and when the Vikings got the ball back Jaydin Hakin rushed 63 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead to 10 with 2:05 left in the game as Waterloo held on for a 26-16 win.
Ashton Hinchliffe ran for 172 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries to lead the Blue Devils. Trevor Siefke also had a 2-yard touchdown run and the Blue Devils added a safety.
Waterloo improved to 2-1 all-time against Lisbon. Waterloo won the first meeting 21-0 in 1993 and Lisbon won 22-6 in 1994.
Lisbon (2-1) will open Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference league play at East Palestine on Friday.
Bridgeport 32, East Palestine 25
BRIDGEPORT -- Bridgeport built a 17-point lead in the third quarter and held off East Palestine for a 32-25 win in a battle of Bulldogs Friday.
Owen Jurjavcic accounted for all four of East Palestine's touchdowns, two rushing and two passing.
Bridgeport improves to 2-1, while East Palestine drops to 0-3.
Bridgeport took an 18-0 lead with 2:24 left in the first quarter and missed all three two-point conversions.
A Drew Byrcroft interception stopped another Bridgeport drive and East Palestine converted on Jurjavcic's 9-yard touchdown runon the last play of the first half.
Bridgeport went up 24-7 in the third quarter before East Palestine rallied.
Jurjavic cut the deficit to 24-13 on a 24-yard scramble for a score.
Brideport responded with Michael Marshall's 42-yard run through several defenders to boost the margin to 32-13.
Jurjavcic connected on a 43-yard pass to Shane Richardson to set up a 2-yard touchdown run, making it 32-19.
Byrcroft hauled in an 18-yard touchdown pass from Jurjavcic with 2 1/2 minutes remaining to make the final score 32-25.
The 32 points was the fewest allowed by East Palestine during its current eight-game losing streak.
Both teams play next week with East Palestine hosting Lisbon on Friday and Bridgeport visiting Bradford on Saturday.

Western Reserve 28, Columbiana 6
BERLIN CENTER -- Jack Darney scored three touchdowns to lead Western Reserve to a 28-6 win over Columbiana on Friday.
Western Reserve (2-1) outained Columbiana 322 yards to 274.
Aidan Radcliff had 25 and 27-yard field goals for the Clippers.
Western Reserve led 14-3 after a quarter and 14-6 at the half.
The Devils added a touchdown each in the third and fourth quarters.
Kian Hartley had 23 carries for 126 yards to lead the Clipper offense. On defense, Hartley had nine tackles to lead the Clippers.
Liam Surgenavic completed four of 12 passes for 46 yards and an interception. Surgenavic also had 56 yards rushing.
Columbiana is 0-3 and will host United on Friday.
Western Reserve is at McDonald on Friday.
Strasburg 26, Leetonia 20
STRASBURG -- Leetonia fell to 0-3 with a 26-20 loss to Strasburg on Friday.
The Bears have lost 13 straight and have been outscored 540-39 during that time.
The last time Leetonia scored 20 points was a 20-8 win over Sebring on Oct. 29, 2021.
Leetonia will host Valley in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener next Friday.
The Bears have not won a league game since defeating East Palestine 52-16 on Sept. 10, 2021.
West Branch 52, Girard 43
BELOIT -- Joey Jackson wears uniform No. 1 for the West Branch Warriors. Friday night against Girard, he was the one.
Jackson scored five touchdowns, including one defensively, to lead the Warriors (2-1) past Girard (2-1) 52-43 at Clinton Heacock Stadium.
This one was a textbook definition of a shootout. Or perhaps it redefined the team.
West Branch quarterback Beau Alazaus was 32-for-50 for 370 yards and six TDs (which tied a school record).
Jackson set school records with 15 catches (for 208 yards), his five total TDs and he tied the school record with four receiving TDs.
