Pallard excels in Florida
COLUMBIANA -- Addison Pallard, a 6th grader in the Columbiana school system, recently took part in the All-American Softball tournament in Panama City Beach, Florida.
She led her team Freedom to the tournament championship and was awarded the silver slugger award for her efforts.
Pallard plays as part of the Columbiana Softball Association and a is a member of the Valley Extreme travel team. She also is a full-time substitute player with the Ohio Blast 10U team.
Soccer shoot on tap
SALEM -- The Salem Elms Lodge Soccer Shoot will be held on Aug. 20. Registration is set for 12:30 p.m. Shoot will run from 1 to 3 p.m. There will be four age groups for both boys and girls (7 and under, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15). Division placement is the child's age on Jan. 1, 2024.
SALEM --Reservations are still being accepted for the 2023 Salem High School Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony to be held on Aug. 17 at Salem High School. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner and ceremony to follow at 6:30 p.m. This year's class includes Jim Ciotti, Lou Angelo, Jarin Heath, Anthony Shivers, Nancy Miller, Bo Whinnery and the 2006 and 2007 volleyball teams. Reservations are $35 for adults and $25 for children and will be accepted through the end of the week by calling 330-831-7207 or emailing shs.athletichof@gmail.com.
LEETONIA -- Leetonia High School graduate Ella Gregorino was recently presented with a $1,000 Ohio High School Athletic Association scholarship.
She was one of 169 recipients state-wide. In total $169,000 worth of scholarships were granted.
The OHSAA's college scholarship program, now in its 29th year, returned in 2022 following a two-year hiatus due to pandemic-related financial constraints.
"The college scholarship program is a point of pride for our District Athletic Boards, OHSAA staff, Board of Directors and member schools," said OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute. "These student-athletes represent the very best of high school athletics, and it is an honor for us to help these young leaders work toward their educational and career goals. We congratulate them on their accomplishments and look forward to celebrating their future achievements."
