Westminster favored
LATROBE, Pa. -- After winning its first-ever Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) football title last spring, Westminster College is the league favorite heading into the 2021 fall season.
Westminster collected 21 first-place votes and totaled 316 points in the PAC's annual preseason poll, voted on by PAC head coaches, sports information directors and members of the media, announced Tuesday at PAC Football Media Day.
Washington & Jefferson was picked second and Case Western Reserve third.
Westminster, ranked 12th in NCAA Division III, will find out where it stands when the Titans host top-ranked Mount Union in the Sept. 4 season opener.

Six Ohioans in U.S. Am
OAKMONT, Pa. - Six Ohioans have qualified the 121st U.S. Amateur Championship east of Pittsburgh next week.
The U.S. Amateur consists of 36 holes of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday at Oakmont Country Club and Longue Vue Club in Verona, after which the 312-player field will be reduced to the low 64 scorers.
Ohioans include Jacob Miller of Tiffin; Austin Greaser of Vandalia; Maxwell Moldovan of Uniontown; Garrett Wood of Mason; Jackson Chandler of Dublin; and Drew Salyers of Howard.
There will be six rounds of match play starting Wednesday. The quarterfinals and semifinals are slated for Friday, Aug. 13, and Saturday, Aug. 14, respectively. The championship is scheduled to conclude with a 36-hole final on Sunday, Aug. 15.
Catfish winners
Ron Buzzard of East Liverpool and Scott Reed of Pittsburgh were winners of the Chester Newell Sportsmen's Club Ohio River Catfish Tournament on July 25. Reed was the longest catch winner with a 25 1/8-inch flathead. Buzzard was the lucky draw winner with a 22-inch flathead. The lucky draw number was 18. Water temperature was 73.5 degrees.
