MCDONALD -- Columbiana's defense came through with a total team effort in the second half and the Clippers rebounded from an opening week loss to post a 36-20 win over McDonald on Friday night.
McDonald got on the board with a Nathan Gilligan 57-yard touchdown run to open the scoring. Columbiana quarterback Tony Kocanjer countered with a 90-yard touchdown to make the score 7-7.
In the second quarter, a Lucas Kuhlman long run set up Kian Hartley touchdown run to make it 14-7 Columbiana. McDonald's Michael Woloschack equaled the score with a 19-yard run of his own.
With three minutes left in the half, Kocanjer hit Eddie Clancy on a 50-yard touchdown pass to push the score to 21-14. Mike Seegar had an interception to end a McDonald scoring drive and the Clippers raced down the field and Nate Burnell converted a 25-yard field goal at the halftime whistle to make it 24-14.
The Clippers (1-1) tallied six points in the third quarter and backup running back Jesse Szmara slammed the door shut with a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
McDonald (0-2) was held to six points in the second half.
Columbiana will travel to Wellington on Friday.

EAST CANTON -- Chase Vacco's 1-yard touchdown run with 4:44 to play lifted East Canton over United, 13-7, Friday night.
All three touchdowns were scored on 1-yard runs, one in the first quarter by East Canton quarterback Brennan Bretz and another with 8:01 left in the game by United's Grant Knight.
Vacco ran for 93 yards and Bretz passed for 114 yards.
East Canton held a 267-137 edge in total yards.
Both teams are 1-1 on the season.
Both teams play next Friday as United hosts Crestview and East Canton travels to Southern Local.

EAST PALESTINE --Mineral Ridge and East Palestine weren't originally scheduled to meet on Friday but COVID cancellations set the wheels in motion for the game to happen.
The Rams ripped off 319 yards of total offense in a 50-18 win on Friday.
East Palestine fell to 0-2, while the Rams evened their record to 1-1.
Marck Bunch threw for 231 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Rams.
Tyler Bistarkey led the Bulldogs with 104 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
East Palestine will be at Campbell on Friday.

GREENFORD -- Shane Lindstrom scored three touchdowns in the first half to put South Range on its way to a 40-21 win over University School on Friday night.
The Raiders jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter as Lindstrom hauled in a 35-yard pass from Billy Skripac, Dylan Dominguez scored on a 16-yard run and Skripac added a 3-yard scoring run.
South Range improves to 2-0 and will host Canton Central Catholic on Friday.
Lindstrom added a 24-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give the Raiders a 27-7 lead.
South Range had two big scoring plays in the second half -- a 78-yard pass by Ayden Leon from Billy Skripac and 46-yard run by Connor Jones.
University School drops to 1-1and will host Bay next Saturday.
