Ban enacted on private property owners is restrictive

To the editor: At the recent public hearing held by the Columbiana County Commissioners regarding a ban on construction of large solar facilities and large wind farms in the unincorporated parts of seven townships in the county, Commissioner Weigle brought up my longtime support of the work of Western Reserve Land Conservancy. He stated that 898 acres of land in the county is controlled by the Conservancy and that solar panels cannot be placed on that land. That statement is very true. To the editor: As a senior citizen living in Salem for over 50 years, I can fully appreciate the time my children spent in Salem City Schools. Today, they are successful citizens in their own communities, bringing with them many talents and successes they were given and taught while attending school here in our community. We must protect our ballot initiative

To the editor: Do you want the freedom to make decisions that affect your life and improve your community? Ohio voters have had that right since 1912 by using ballot initiatives to exercise that freedom. Now, lobbyists, special interests, and extremist politicians in the Ohio Statehouse want to take this power away from citizens. May is Preservation Month – Vote!

To the editor and Salem voters: Salem Preservation was created 30 years ago after we were at risk of losing historic homes that could be saved. Schools have become an endangered species of their own. The National Trust for Historic Preservation brought attention to this issue in 2000 by naming Neighborhood Schools to the America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places list. The issue of aging schools needing to be adapted to current standards is a nationwide problem. There are good arguments to made for and against creating newer and bigger school buildings.
