Annexation Tension

To the editor: I moved to the city of Salem back in 1995. My grandmother and great aunt lived her. I remember coming to Salem as a child with my mother every week. My mother and her siblings graduated from Salem. I stayed, got married and had children. Our first child was born in 1999. My husband and I lived within the city limits until 2004. I have never had issues with Salem. We just wanted to move a little further out to give our children more yard to play in and to avoid the traffic and noise. To the editor: I read with great interest the recent anonymous op-ed regarding Rep. Stoltzfus proposed House Bill 240 which would allow public schools in Ohio to employ chaplains. The negative tenor of the opinion was clearly reflected in the title and served to communicate to the reader great concern and alarm over the possibility that students in Ohio might actually be exposed to “faith” in public schools. To the editor: As the Senate prepares to consider the 2023 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization bill, I encourage our Ohio senators to support modernizing the outdated perimeter rule and adding more flights to and from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The current perimeter rule is hurting the Washington, D.C. air travel market. It hampers healthy competition, resulting in high consumer costs for Ohioans and travelers across the country. To the editor, In your Friday, July 21 issue, Clarence Page states in his editorial that, “McCarthy gives in to far-right faction.” After thoroughly reading his editorial, I could not find where McCarthy, the Speaker of the House, gave in to the far right. To the editor: On August 8, there will be a special election to consider a constitutional amendment that would result in sweeping and undemocratic changes to the rights of citizens to propose and amend Ohio’s constitution through the ballot initiative process.
