Help needed with Lisbon’s fireworks event
To the editor:
I’m told it has been decades since fireworks have lit the sky of this amazing Village in celebration of Independence Day. I am so proud that this community is pulling together to, once again, enjoy a Fourth of July celebration…albeit on the 3rd of July!
Volunteers are planning an afternoon of activities including bands, inflatables, food trucks and, of course, fireworks. We’re doing all this without an admission fee!
Our desire to bring fireworks back to Lisbon is simply to bring a day of community to our Village. A day where we take a break from day-to-day problems –to escape the stresses of the world and appreciate our own home town. A simple day of fun, family and food culminated with an exciting fireworks display. We want to bring unity back to this community.
These fireworks are not about politics. They’re not about race, color or national origin. They are not about religion. They don’t care if we identify as he, she, they or it. Whether we make minimum wage or how much money we have in the bank doesn’t matter. To the contrary, the original reason for firework displays in America was to celebrate the freedom to openly and freely pursue happiness and all the above without fear of persecution. It’s a symbol of the peace to live in a country –a community –where we can go to sleep at night knowing we are safe.
This endeavor is not cheap. We need to raise over $15,000 to make it a reality. In addition to the fireworks, costs include entertainment, inflatables, garbage removal and event insurance. The County Fair Board generously donated the use of the fairgrounds. Yet there are minimal fees involved. We’re well on our way to the goal but we still need help. Lisbon Fireworks is not funded by any public or government entity. It is financed solely by donations. All donors will be recognized on social media, banners, T-shirts, advertising and at the event. We will respect those donors requesting anonymity.
We have filed for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. We want to have an even bigger event next year to celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary. 501(c)(3) Status will allow us to request grants for that celebration. Any funds received over our 2025 goal will go toward the 2026 event.
Donations may be sent to Lisbon Fireworks, PO Box 8, Lisbon, OH 44432. Visit our Facebook page: Lisbon Fireworks for more information. Be happy and do good.
