Ohioans cheated, deceived by elected leaders

To the editor:

A new record: twice in one week Ohioans were both cheated and deceived by their elected leaders.

On Monday (August 12, 2024) Ohio’s Attorney General, Dave Yost settled with First Energy for $20 million. That is less than a third of how much First Energy paid in bribes ($61 million) to Larry Householder and other state legislators to give them their $1.6 billion bailout. All money out of the pockets of Ohio taxpayers. And Yost settles for a measly $20 million. Ohioans cheated again.

On Friday (August 16, 2024) Ohio’s Secretary of State Frank LaRose wrote language that will appear on the November ballot that makes the citizens-led gerrymandering amendment (Citizens Not Politicians) look like it is for gerrymandering instead of its true intent to stop gerrymandering.

535,000 Ohioans signed a petition for an amendment to be placed on the ballot because they are sick and tired of the politicians in office drawing political boundaries that are guaranteed to keep them in office. LaRose corrupted the language that will appear on the ballot in an attempt to confuse voters and deceive them into voting against the amendment. Voters need only to look at the actual Amendment and compare it to the ballot language to see for themselves what deceit looks like.

We Ohioans need to educate ourselves and follow the actions of those we elect to ensure they are acting in our best interests and doing the job we, their employers, task them with.
