Dear Residents of East Liverpool:
It has been a privilege to serve you as Mayor the past four years. There have been many challenges along the way but we have persevered. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our community. I am thankful for the friendships I have formed and strengthened over the past four years, the support I have received, and all the individuals that joined in the fight to move the city forward.
With the grants we have received in the past month alone, I am certainly ending my term on a high note. East End will finally get the attention it needs and deserves with the $30 million grant we received. This will not only change East End but the entire city and will help attract new businesses to East End. We also received great news that we will be able to save the Thompson Building! This effort has taken three years of labor and love, and I am incredibly thankful for our team that helped make this happen. Downtown will be completely changed in the years to come. With the restoration of the Thompson Building, one of our most iconic historic buildings, we will see a surge of over 100 jobs downtown. This will lead to more businesses, restaurants, and services being brought to the city.
In total, we have received over $53 million in grants and projects completed in the city in the past four years. Bridges have been repaired and built, Dresden Avenue will be completely repaved in 2026 thanks to a $1.5 million grant we were awarded, Route 11 has been repaved (all through the leadership of SSD David Dawson), pickleball courts built, murals painted, new businesses have opened in the city, new downtown building owners have invested in the city, brownfield sites have been removed, a new city car barn has been purchased, neighborhoods have improved with over 120 blighted homes torn down, blighted buildings have been removed, our sewer plant will be updated with a $2 million grant we received, we awarded the bids for the water intake project to begin, 50 fire hydrants have been replaced, and money has been received through grants for our bike trail with construction starting this winter. In addition, the city has been financially sound the past four years and will have over a $150k carryover into 2024.
We should all be excited for the future. There are more businesses opening in early 2024 that we have attracted to the city and we are waiting to hear on a very large grant application we submitted just weeks ago.
We have established great relationships with all our elected officials at the county, state, and federal levels. I can assure you all our officials want to help this city and I hope these great working relationships continue forward. These officials at all levels have helped push the city forward over the past four years and we have received funding from each level of government simply because we asked them for help.
The city has made great strides in the past four years however, we still have ways to go. My hope, which is all of our hopes, is that the city continues to move forward!
