To the editor:
As a young reporter at the Morning Journal, I covered the administrations of Lisbon Mayor Joe Chapman and the late Lisbon Mayor Frank Rudibaugh, two office holders I admired greatly for their non-adversarial approach dealing with constituents' concerns and for their dedication to the Village.
I feel the same admiration for current Mayor Peter Wilson, and this unsolicited letter is my support for his re-election. To clarify, I know Mayor Wilson as an acquaintance, not as a personal friend.
He is a hands-on volunteer on many community projects and events. He holds regular office hours to make himself easily accessible, keeps us informed through his Facebook page and monthly newsletter, and researches available grants that could benefit Lisbon.
From humble beginnings living the first two years of his life in a walk-up apartment on the Square in Lisbon, Mayor Wilson's career as a journalist took him to places like Saudi Arabia, Sao Paulo (Brazil), and Caracas (Venezuela). He worked several years for the world-renowned wire service Bloomberg News and wrote for major publications like BusinessWeek and USA Today.
Mayor Wilson has shared what brought him back to Lisbon was a strong emotional tie to the Village where he would visit his grandparents as a child. He has said every time he would come down Canton Hill into Lisbon, "it just seems like home."
Please consider re-electing Mayor Wilson so our village can continue to progress.
