To the editor:
In these trying economic times it is comforting to see our county's Port Authority striving to assist local businesses in assuring they will remain competitive in our regional and national markets by recently awarding Maritime Assistance Grants totaling $1.6 million to two riverfront companies to extend their docks and erect new storage buildings.
Over the past few years, I have taken notice of the myriad ways Port Authority CEO Penny Traina, her open-minded board of directors and their support staff have found creative ways to support our local businesses therefore not only securing the jobs of people currently employed but brining additional employment opportunities to out county.
I am proud of their continuing commitment to bolster our county's present companies while offering new opportunities to companies wishing to expand into our area.
I want to sincerely say "thank you."
