To the editor:
I am writing to respond the Morning Journal's editorial "DeWine deserves another term as governor of Ohio," specifically to the point about his enforcement of capital punishment.
As a person of faith, I applaud the governor for issuing reprieves and approaching this issue carefully and thoughtfully. In Ohio ending the death penalty is a bipartisan issue.
As we speak, the legislature is considering two bills that would repeal the death penalty, both of which have strong bipartisan support. For those who may be critical of Governor DeWine for the reprieves he has issued during his tenure, I encourage you to consider what people who have studied the death penalty have been saying for years: capital punishment is an example of government overreach and is inconsistent with a pro-life stance.
